Cedar Point announces Boardwalk with Wild Mouse roller coaster

From the press release:

The excitement and nostalgia of Cedar Point’s classic lakeside experience will be celebrated in a whole new way in 2023 when the park opens The Boardwalk, a new themed area just steps away from the very Lake Erie shoreline that made Cedar Point famous. The Boardwalk is a modern interpretation of the Cedar Point of yesteryear. New ride, dining and entertainment experiences for the entire family will round out the improvements coming to the former Lakeside Midway.

More than an amusement park, Cedar Point continues to expand its attractions, signature events and festivals, year-round overnight accommodations and multi-day offerings, giving families so many reasons to explore the park and create new memories while solidifying their annual traditions.

“The Boardwalk is our vision of what the classic Cedar Point Boardwalk would have felt like long ago: the sights, the sounds, the electricity of the experience – this new area captures it all,” said Carrie Boldman, vice president and general manager of Cedar Point. “Lakeside attractions have always been a part of Cedar Point’s 153-year history, and that tradition lives on. We can’t wait for our guests to enjoy this stunning new centerpiece of summertime fun.”

Wild Mouse Roller Coaster

Cedar Point’s legacy of roller coaster thrills continues with the addition of the Wild Mouse roller coaster. A nod to the park’s original Wild Mouse coaster, the modern version will provide a ride experience the original couldn’t – its cars will spin 360 degrees as they navigate the ride’s 1,312 feet of bright orange track.

The spins, dips, drops and hairpin turns of Wild Mouse will thrill coaster lovers young and young-at-heart. Standing 52 feet tall, the Wild Mouse ride experience is an unpredictable game of “cat and mouse,” complete with six mouse-themed cars and one cheese-themed car. The coaster’s free-form spinning action changes with the number of riders aboard each car, providing one-of-a-kind experiences with no two rides being exactly the same.

Riders must be at least 42” tall to ride with a supervising companion, or 48” tall to ride alone. Wild Mouse is manufactured by Zamperla® and joins Cedar Point’s unmatched ride collection as the 18th roller coaster at America’s Roller Coast.

Cedar Point’s Grand Pavilion

Serving as the anchor to The Boardwalk, Cedar Point’s Grand Pavilion commemorates the park’s original Grand Pavilion entertainment space, which made its debut back in 1888.

In 2023, Cedar Point’s Grand Pavilion will take many cues from the original. The bi-level complex will be home to a new restaurant featuring culinary items not found anywhere else in the park (plus many traditional favorites), a lake view bar for relaxation and conversation, indoor and outdoor seating plus viewing decks with unparalleled panoramas of Cedar Point, the Cedar Point Beach and the Lake Erie shoreline.

Here’s some food for thought. I find it interesting that in publicity the Boardwalk attractions are listed as Windseeker, Atomic Scrambler, Matterhorn, Calypso, Giant Wheel, Dodgem, Troika, and Gatekeeper. Now, if you were maXair wouldn’t you feel a little left out? I know I would. I mean after all, the entrance is on the lake side of the ride and it swings way out over the midway and doesn’t go unnoticed. So what gives? I’m a firm believer that there are no accidents…
Perhaps there’s a possibility that someday (not this year) maXair will be removed, god forbid, but rather be relocated to that far corner of the Funway leaving space for the much-needed renovation of Kiddie Kingdom.
And in the meantime the space left by Scrambler and Matterhorn could be used for a more convenient corral for the food trucks that come and go each season. Or a small stage. Or something.

Where exactly is the far corner of the Funway?

And yes, I would feel bad if I was MaxAir.

I'm sincerely hoping that next year (or in the near future) the Kiddy Kingdom/Coliseum/Planet Snoopy area gets some kind of facelift into something more cohesive.

I have to admit I'm a little jealous of that Snoopy coaster that Canada's Wonderland is getting. Can't get all the new toys, though, that just looks fun.

Promoter of fog.

I jealous of everything Canada’s Wonderland has. Except maybe Minebuster…
The Funway is the original midway and the far corner is where Scrambler and Matterhorn are coming from. Scrambler may be CP’s oldest original flat, aside from the Herschell kiddies and the Midway Carousel. It was where Raptor’s roll is when I first visited in ‘62 and was replaced by Burger Patio. So I believe this may be only the third move for the ride.

I just rode Exterminator at Kennywood for the first time yesterday and was pleasantly surprised by the intensity so a spinning wild mouse/wildcat style coaster has me excited.

I hope for that as well. What has me worried though is the hole that will be created by the moving of Scrambler and Matterhorn. That leads me to believe they will address that very large hole in the midway before they worry about the front end.

It's always been inconvenient having Kiddie Kingdom separated from Planet Snoopy by the Coliseum, and prior to this announcement I had hoped whatever they were doing would include merging KK with PS. Perhaps unlikely, but if they were to raze that weird little pretzel/hat/whatever shop (and possibly Pagoda) that would open up an area large enough to merge the kids' areas over there.

Moving Matterhorn and Scrambler opens up the region if they also remove the aging Corscrew and replace it with something new. Maybe something similar to what CW is getting?

This announcement seems like a subtle hint that Dragster will reopen since Wild Mouse will be the park's 18th coaster. Also, the new Wild Mouse coaster looks fun.

the CEO’s shoe size stamped on the side?

Wait... is this true or are you just being cheeky and fun? (wee little shenanigans)

We have always referred to Disaster Transport as "12E" but never knew (and until you posted this never cared) why there was a giant 12E on the side.

Dick is not a tall man. I doubt he was a 12. E.

Why not include Maxair and rename it Beach Frisbee?

SBNO is still S.

These spinning mice with the seats facing each other have the potential for crazy rides if you can severely unbalance the car enough AND get lucky on a few turns.

Flashback to 2012: partner (who is 6'6") and I are at SFDK on a tuesday with flashpasses (becasue we figured we'd likely never be back). We'd done the whole park and was only midafternoon, so we decided to start marathoning Roar and Pandemonium. In Pandemonium, the idea was: get a car to ourselves, him lean as far back diagonally out of the seat he could, and me lean into him, moving the center of gravity offcenter as far as possible, then see if we can catch a curve or two for spin.

We hit the jackpot on the 5th ride. Got a little spin off the first drop but managed to catch each of the 3 corners in the flat part that followed just right, sending the car spinning as fast as any teacup I'd been on. The rest of the ride was nothing but a blur, the sun was going by close to twice a second, so maybe 100rpm? Hit the station still spinning, they got brakes to stop 'em there.

We spent our last 4 hours flashpassing Roar and Pandemonium hoping to recreate that ride, and out of ~20 rides we got a couple more really intense spinners out of it. I can honestly say this silly little ride gave us both an incredible experience.

TL;DR: looking forward to CP's mouse.

Brian, I know but I have a hard time imagining it SBNO for another season.

Good point about Maxair missing from the ride list. It’s either moving or leaving. That would make sense moving it to Scrambler Matterhorn area to free up the walkway where it was jammed into currently.

Nah it just wasn't mentioned. Tony addressed that on Twitter.

Coasterbuzz - Coaster enthusiasts, but so much more. We're the good ones.

When I was there back in 2019 the one thing I wanted mid- afternoon was to kick back for a minute and watch the waves roll in while I had a beer. I ended up having to leave the park and walk over to the resort to make it happen back then. Sounds like this new Grand Pavilion will make it much easier to enjoy the lake shore from within the park.

One does not simply unscrew and put away a coaster that size. (Imagine that in meme form if you wish, too lazy to make it.)

Pretty sure I've said this here before, but when TTD was built there were only 4 cranes in the world tall enough to build it and TTD used 2 of them. I imagine that the cranes are booked out years, if not a decade in advance.

Only other way to get rid of it would be controlled demolition. Which admittedly would be pretty awesome sight to behold.

In my Southend neighborhood we take our eyesores, paint em white and plant flowers in em.
