I just saw this posted onto their twitter account. That will be a nice addition to that area of the park.
I noticed that earlier on screamscape. 360 ft, Wow! Doesn't the one at KI reach 240 ft? I almost always get to KI early so that I can get a bunch of tickets for only $5.00 each. I love that ride. The Gemini midway is getting a bunch of love this year.
Why do they feel the need to make these rides so high? I have seen a few of these rides at various fairs, and would certainly like to try one. But, I would be nervous about the rides safety. And, I know none of my friends would even consider it. I would certainly try one if it were under 200 feet.
I can't imagine how much force there would be on a slingshot that throws you that high in the air. Not to mention how much force there would be on the downward trip. Considering accidents that have happened on those cord jump rides. You never know.
Also, they did not have much luck with the last similar ride they attempted, so I am surprised they would even consider it. Though I can bet the charge would be pretty high to ride, mainly to pay to insure it.
I might watch. But, not sure I would ride it, even if it was free.
I didn't do it! I swear!!
My friends offered to pay to watch me ride Rip Cord at MA, just so they could watch and laugh at me. I told them I would do it, if one of them went with me. Though none of them were brave enough to try it, so I ended up not doing it. I think if someone offered to pay, and I had a riding partner, I would certainly go for a spin.
On a note on the slingshot ride at the fairs. They were maybe 100 feet 150 tops, and cost $15.00 to ride. But, I was turned away, because they would not let me ride without a riding partner. Bummer.
But for the one at Cedar Point, I would need to be heavily secured to ride. A harness, and then wrapped tightly in plastic like a a cacoon. To consider it. With just my head and feet sticking out. Then I might feel safe, and maybe surrounded with bubble wrap. LOL!!
I didn't do it! I swear!!
If the restraints are anything like Ripcord, it's pretty much fail proof.
Also, the reason the ride is being built to be so high (360ft) is because it is at Cedar Point, and that kind of thing is what their customers have come to expect. The Sling Shot at Kings Island supposedly reaches 275 feet, so go there if you want a smaller one.
Edited to add - I know the restraint system is not the same for both Ripcod type rides and Sling Shot rides, but as far as I can tell, they both have a lot of redundancy to them...

I'm not an expert, but I'd guess you'd be just as dead with a malfunction at 198 feet as at 360 feet. ;)

The slingshot at KI is 275 ft. CP is only 35 ft off the worlds tallest slingshot. Not too shabby.
This ride would not be a part of Cedar Point, it would be part of the Challenge Park or whatever they call it
"The term is 'amusement park.' An old Earth name for a place where people could go to see and do all sorts of fascinating things." -Spock, Stardate 3025
Are you trying to say it's not in the park? Because it is. The location of the ride is near Gemini, not in Challenge Park at all.
I'm assuming it's being built on the Gemini midway rather then Challenge Park for a few reasons. There's a lot more traffic in that area, not everyone visits Challenge Park. It's one more thing to do on this recently rehabbed area of the park. Plus, those who don't want to be shot up can watch, it will draw an audience.
