cedar point

Hey guys I just got back from cedarpoint and noticed and heard wierd things. First when we got to the park we went to the back of the park by meanstreak. I saw Dick Kinzel, which is nothing new, but he seemed to be staring at the space by gemini and meanstreak. He looked as though he was sizing the space up.

As the day went on I noticed a lot more corporate guys out there. We are not talking a few but tons of guys in ties dress shirts and slacks wearing cedarpoint nametags. I found it wierd because they were hardly never alone. If you saw them you saw them in pairs more than likely. I also noticed that they would stop talk for a few minutes and start doing that stare thing like I noticed Dick Kinzel doing earlier.

Looking for a place to eat I walked past a pair of the guys with walkie talkies and one said something about underground rollercoaster. IS there any of cedarpoint coasters that have a section underground? If not could this point out that there next coaster might have a section of track underground?

Later on I went to vertigo and rode it ( this thing is crazy). I started talking to the ride operator expecting him to be stupid when it came to coasters and I came out shocked. We started taking about Stan Checketts. He told me that he had talked to for about a half an hour when he came to the point. I brought up hypersonic and the possibility of cp getting a thrust air. To my suprise this kid new a lot more than I had thought. He told me that in his home state, Utah, he had seen it test ridden and was pretty impressed with it. On hearing this I asked him if the rumors were true that cp might get one. He told me that uppermanagment is really impressed with this ride. He said there realations with stan checketts is great. He also told me , but didn't know for a fact that in a few years we might see disaster transport and iron dragon tore down or improved. Now you might be saying wow great a dumb ride op is going around spreading stuff. I don't think this is true. He was really educated in what he said. He knew a lot more than some of us probably know.

From my understanding, there are no Cedar Point rides that go below grade. I've heard that there were plans for Magnum and Millennium Force to go underground, but there was some problem with the water table or something... any one know if there's any truth to that?

Anyway, when you say you just got back from Cedar Point, did you mean today, or on Saturday? I wouldn't be surprised that Dick Kinzel was walking around on Saturday, because he tends to do that. You may have quite possibly seen him looking around and surveying land for where the next coaster will go, it's entireley possible, but to know for sure, we'll just have to wait and see... time will tell.

Between Mean Streak and Gemini.....is that Soak City's Parking lot? Also, Cedar Point is in the buisness of building roller coasters, not taking them down. I don't think they will tear any down. As far as the rode op, who knows. I mean the famous qoute, "Those who know don't tell, and those who tell don't know."

Also, Intamin2k, funny sig.

MF RULES there is a space between Gemini and Mean Streak, the parking lot is behind the space. I doubt that they take out any of their roller coasters. I mean why should they unless it giving them too much trouble.

I really do hope they get a TA2K but there is one big issue and thats capacity. Currently, I believe TA2K has a one train operation and for the crowds Cedar Point gets, I don't know how that will work. Also with all the break downs that I hear about at Carowinds (I think thats the park) I don't know how good it will go unless they make a more complex curcuit.

You are the Weakest Link, Goodbye.
It's King's Dominion you're talking about. I'm sure capacity issues could be fixed. I mean, a thrust air could do alot more than a hill and turn, therefore more trains could run. Many of the things Jordan saw seem likely to me.

1. Many managment looking around at the area.
2. The space between MS and Gemini looks very useful, the only thing in the way is the big matinence building.
3. The employee seemed to know what he was talking about, such as CP having good relations with S&S and being impressed with the thrust air concept.

BTW, it isn't like they were standing there thinking about how a coaster would fit. The plans for next year have surely been made and everything designed already, probably before this season. Hopefully they were saying, "Wow, that 250 ft floorless B&M is gonna look nice!";)...

It would be very difficult, not to mention expensive to put anything below grade. Remember the Point is just a few feet above lake level.CP has removed coasters in the past, although it has been around twenty years or so. The Jumbo Jet had a life span there of around ten years if I remember correctly, from the early 70's to the early 80's. Believe me if a ride becomes more trouble than it's worth, it's out of there.
Between Mean Streak and Gemini is Planning and Design and a few other small buildings and behind that is a road than on the other side of the rode is Lighthouse Point. Plus I bet nothing will happen in the Soak City parking lot, since most days the lot is full.

They wouldn't be looking for a spot for next years coaster... if there is a coaster coming I bet Cedar Point has already picked out a spot and the design of the ride is almost(if not) done.

Also Cedar Point would be able to over come the capacity issue with TA2K...
1. They could add a few blocks, or do a split station.
2. Make the trains a little longer.

They would also have one more thing to overcome, getting the darn thing to work...

Oops... kinda lost my reply in the Forum update... I'll try this again, to the best of my memory.

Cedar Point is in the record breaking/making business. The whole removal of any coaster in the park doesn't make sense to me. I think that CP would most likely try to break their own record of 14 coasters in one park, than to build a coaster and remove one, just to end up back at 14 coasters.

Also, a project on Disaster Transport doesn't sound too out of the woods. Although I haven't been on the coaster myself, from what I hear the late-1980 special effects aren't looking so great now. So if they turned it back to Avalanche Run or fixed the effects, it would probably be more popular.

All we can do is wait 'til October.

"Welcome back Millennium Force Riders, how was your ride?"

CP has room for a trust air. Just take Millennium Force for example. The lift is on a skinny land piece. I could see a trust air next year. If so, I might go back...

As far as all of the suits in the park, although I am not positive about the exact dates, there was/is supposed to be a convention of amusement/theme park people, and that they were spending time at Cedar Point with a reception in the Coliseum Ballroom with the Tommy Dorsey Band.  I recieved this info from a park employee and the timing sounds about right.  I wouldnt get too excited about all the suits.

Actually, the IAAPA summer meeting isn't until next month.

I think overall this is a lot of excitement about nothing.

Thanks Jeff for clarifying that.  I wasnt sure of the exact date of their meeting, but I new it was coming up.  I didnt want to mislead anyone and I made that clear in my original post.

I agree with you, a lot of excitement about nothing.  You will know when they release the info, or it gets leaked.  But either way, you still will have to wait until opening day to ride it.

I think CP could go underground but it would be a piece of work to do it.  You gotta remember that the base for the sky cabin thing goes WAY down into bedrock to support it.  Anything is possible with the allmighty dollar!
What happened to you Jordon was what I call POO: Park Official Overstimulation. Usually nothing exciting comes from this situation except a juicy rumor or two.

The next month or two rumors will be flying around until CP announces whatever they're doing next year

I Didn't say that the a thrust air will be built there next year. But I didn't say they won't get one next year.He said that the uppermanagement is impressed with the ride, and stan checketts work. He said that they might get one in the future with an improved design , guest compacity, layout ect, ect.  Also the iron dragon and disaster transport removal/ improvement he said will probably be in a few years or near future.  A underground section of a coaster will not be impossible for them to do. That would be cool though if in the near future we see a thrust air at cp with an improved design that had some part that went underground. Maybe even just the first drop go into a tunnel that is underground. I think though if we don't see this next year , then we will see one in a couple of years.

The tunnel that crosses underneath the road going to soak city from magnum.  That goes below grade doesn't it?

well i wouldnt be suprised if they put in a thrust air.  CP needs something cheap and good.  and a thrust air certainly sounds like it.  KD is building one coaster right after another, and i think thats because the thrust-air coasters are cheap, not to mention they attract people.  i have been on hypersonic and its not something to blow off.  MF was an expensive ride, and if they are going to put in another any time soon, it will probably be something a lot cheaper than MF was.  i wouldnt be suprised if they dont put anything really big in for a while.  but if they do put in a coaster for next season, fine w/ me. . .im finally goin next season!

What's good about a ride that's closed as much as it's open and has poor capacity? In Cedar Point's eyes, not much.
