Cedar Point - How late do they REALLY let you ride

I know that closing time is Midnight at the latest, but is that when they shut the lines down, or is that when it's curtains? Just curious.

Well when I was there they had sort of an ERT thing. It wasn't announced or anything, but after Summer Spectacular Raptor, PT and Mantis were open for about two more hours afterwards. I didn't leave the platform of Raptor I "had to fill the empy seats". I got 6 front row night rides in a row...that was awesome :)

Cedar have a "soft closing" , where they close the line when the park closes but they keep running people through till no one is left.

Its one of those customer-appreciation things.
Kings Island used to not do this, but they do a good job with it now.

Six Flags is still pretty bad at it.

John's right. All rides will have their entrance closed off at the posted closing time for the park. The rides will then run until everyone in line at that point has ridden. The only exceptions are Iron Dragon and Wildcat, which close early for the Summer Spectacular show.

I've been the last person to get in line for Millennium Force on a night when the park closed at midnight. By the time we got off it was about 1:30 and the rest of the park had basically shut down by then. It may for an interested walk to the gate.

If you're in the queue at closing time, you'll ride, plain and simple. The queues remain open until closing time, and for the most part there aren't many exceptions (other than rides in the laser sights of the Summer Spectacular).

The only time I've ever seen them close a line early was with Millennium Force early last season, and they posted the early closing time at the gates. If I recall correctly it was when they were trying to perfect the blocking for three trains and the subsequent certification.

Oh, really? Then why did I wait in line for two hours one July night for Millennium Force only to be told I couldn't ride becuase of problems? Damn those blasted Intamins! :)

I remember opening day they closed MF an hour early (9pm) due to the line length (about 2.75hrs). They spieled about it over every ride so it wasn't like anyone could be surprised about it. That line turned out to be the longest line I've ever waited in for any ride (2.75hrs). And it was so well worth the wait!

I wish other parks would do that. Not to name names, but I went to a park on the other side of the country to ride a flying coaster. We arrived mid afternoon and saw the flying coaster running. I was so happy. We went to get in line a little after 5:00 only to be turned away. The line had been closed for the evening! Needless to say, I was very upset after paying admission and being turned away from the star new attraction which was up and running, with hours and hours of open park time left in the day.

SfGam does that for the Raging Bull. If it's outside the queue, they hand out tickets to the people in line. Usually all the other lines have only a few people left.
SFWoA shut down Batman's queue 20 minutes before closing every time I was there. Double Loop and Serial Thriller about 10 minutes. Mind Eraser about 5. Everything else remained open.

I think you knew I meant barring any mechanical problems.

And you would be correct!

Another similar question: What is the latest you have ever ridden a coaster at CP? Mine would be 1:45am on Millennium Force the last Saturday of the season. Definitely a memorable ride!

I was on Gemini one Saturday night until 11:40, ran to Raptor, got in line, and got on the ride about an hour later...

I guess it just depends on line length.

SF has been the only Amusement park chain to close the line early on me, but last year at the state fair, i rode a ride called "fireball", and the ride time was about 1.5 to 2 minutes.

Anyway, I get on it right before midnight (closing time) , they run the ride for about 30 seconds and shut off everything..even lights.

I found it extremely rude, but what can you do?
When I went to CP, they said if we were in line before the park closes, then we were find. I like that...

...And when Cedar Point closes at 11pm or Midnight the rides that closed for the laser show will (unless there is a mechanical problem or BAD weather) reopen after the laser show (between 10:20 and 10:25) and will stay open until the park closes! Just another way we try to say 'Thank-You'.
