Cedar Point - 7/21/23

After a trip to Kings Island with our two kiddos a few weeks, ago, on Friday, July 21st it was just my wife and I at Cedar Point. We went open to close.

- Coasters we rode twice: Millenium, Steel Vengeance and Magnum. Once: Gemini, Iron Dragon, Blue Streak, Gate Keeper, Valravn, Wild Mouse. Passed on Maverick as the last time I was on it I felt sick after and plus the line was long all day.

- We had about a 45-minute wait for Wild Mouse. We got stuck on the last part on the breaks for about 10 minutes. Thankfully we only spun for about 30 seconds of it. Overall, enjoyed it more than I was expecting to.

- Is Frontier Town always just vacant now? That kinda stinks because that is where most of the shade is.

- The show “Come See About Me” was significantly better than I was expecting. This is a sign I’m getting old that I went to, and enjoyed, a show at a theme park. But hats off to the cast/production folks.

- Grand Pavilion is nice in its simplicity. Nice place to eat, get inside on the beach. The drink spot upstairs is a good idea. I also think a high-quality ice cream parlor there would be a hit.

- Longest wait of the day was a late-night ride on Millenium. Hour 15 minutes-ish.

- Park seemed well staffed and well trained. No issues with staff.

- I love the Skyhawk, I was glad it had a short line as my significant other doesn’t like going on it.

- Even with the meal plan we went out to the car for 20 minutes or so to get some cold water from the cooler and sit in the air conditioning. We were parked close, so it was easy.

- The app worked well. Ticket processing, map usage, etc.

- At one time we could drive there in the morning (it’s a several hour drive from home for us) open the park/close the park and then drive back late. Those days are over. We could probably do one of those, but this time we decided to get a hotel before and after. We stayed at the Comfort Inn Rivers Edge in Huron. Fine stay, no problem. However, when you add in that cost with the cost of the park, obviously it gets expensive for a single day of entertainment. But we did see a movie without the kids on Saturday before heading back.

- We had never done the All Day Dining before, but knowing the Cedar Point food is way better than it was when I was a kid and the cost with the parking of the FunDay Pass… we went for it. Overall, happy with the quality of the food. Happy with the speed of service. It did make me eat more than I might usually do. Which is good and bad. I wish they had larger water cups. We didn’t want to pay for a drink each time so we did the little water cups for our meals. We ate at Backbeat BBQ (lunch), Grand Pavilion (wife wasn’t hungry but I figured it’s free, so I got a sandwich as we checked out the building), Chickie and Petes (dinner) and then grabbed a quick plate of chicken fingers and fries just before closing from a stand. If I am there for a whole day again, I would consider the all day dining. I thought the meal options at each place were fair. I didn’t seem pigeonholed in to getting something I didn’t want.

- I have actually never been on the Corkscrew and wanted to go on it. But it was closed all day.

- As usual, lots of walking, very tired at the end of the day. I used to be able to back-to-back days. I don’t know how my parents did that with me as a kid.

- I am not the enthusiast I once was as life responsibilities have made time limited. But it was nice to go back and pretend I was for a day.

Glad you had a great time. I spent many days there last year since we had the season pass.

I'm the fool that will do the back-to-back days. We actually did 2 and a half in a row and I completely wore everyone else out while I was still trying to run to the rides. :)

Backbeat was pretty good when we tried it too.

Too bad Maverick makes you sick, it's a great ride.
