Cedar Fair will not build Paramount Park in China

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Cedar Fair says that it has no plans to build a theme park in China, despite a published report to the contrary. The project was not part of the acquisition from CBS.

Read more from The Toledo Blade.

That's too bad, they missed out on a great opportunity. However, with the two billion dollar debt, I can see why they would rather focus on improving the current parks.
Kinzel and crew are a 'good ole boys' group. They will not manage what they cannot handle or understand. Coming from Ohio, China is a whole new market that before they step into, they need to make connections with people they trust.

However, they can operate waterparks, therefore nixing the PKI project was a given. Why share the pie when you can eat the whole thing?

Note that none of the parks is more than a 4 hr flight from Ohio. China is a long way.

I agree with Sam in that respect. Kinzel is very patriotic and Republican. I mean, CP opens with the national anthem, and people are fired for not stopping what they're doing when it plays. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that, but culturally it's representative of how specific his knowledge and experience is. Disney has a hard enough time adapting in Asia... I couldn't see Cedar Fair being successful there because they have no international experience. It'll be interesting enough to see how things go at PCW.
^I was just gonna say the same thing Jeff. It'l be interesting to see what they do with PCW being their first international property.

Maybe they'll force them to play our National Anthem...and kick out guests who don't stop what they are doing. Either that or move it lock, stock, and barrel to Detroit. ;)
lol, PCW is my home park and you'd be surprised just how many American liscence plates I see in the parking lot, let alone how many American plates I see daily on the highway. I don't even think PCW play's the Canadian national anthem(I've NEVER herd it, except for on Canada day) but I do know they fly both the Canadian and American flags(considered it is run by an American company).
Do democrats not like the national anthem? :-)

I agree with the above. Us conservative types are not well adapted to people peeing and pooping in public while throwing their children over fences. This is best left to those more adventerous liberal types! Besides China is yesterdays emerging market...it is all about India today!

PKI has been flying the flags (state and provinical) for all parks in the change along Coney Mall for as long as I can remember. I wonder if they'll expand their collection next year?? :)

^^I think Jeff was saying that he is republican and happens to be, surprisingly, patriotic. ;)

And as I mentioned the last time this came up, conservatives would have to leave the country if they couldn't adapt to people pooping and peeing in public and throwing kids over fences.

You're just happy they aren't building a park in RED China. ;)

RED China??? HA. There are more socialists and communists now at Berkely then there are in all of China. ;)
