Cedar Fair has announced that it will permanently close its Wildwater Kingdom in Ohio. From the statement:
Cedar Fair Entertainment Company has announced that Wildwater Kingdom water park in Aurora, Ohio, will not reopen after the 2016 season. Its final day of operation will be Monday, September 5.
Cedar Fair has been working cooperatively with both Bainbridge Township and the City of Aurora to redevelop the entire property into what will best benefit the surrounding communities. After examining its long-range plans, Cedar Fair has determined that the time is right to begin this transition and will continue to work together with community leadership in the positive future development of the property.
Cedar Fair would like to thank the residents of Northeast Ohio for supporting Wildwater Kingdom each summer.
I don't see where CF is "donating" the land. I see that they're "contributing" to the project. I doubt very much that they're simply giving away land and tickets.

They don't use the word donate, but don't clarify when asked the question either.
Q: Why is Cedar Fair buying the land and then contributing it to the project overseen by another private entity?
A: Cedar Fair vice president of community relations Lee Alexakos provided this response:
“Basically our role is that we are going to purchase the former Griffing Airport site, and we saw that as an opportunity to bring development to the area. At the same time, we also saw it as an opportunity to preserve a waterfront asset for the public, and it will bring new recreational benefits to our local residents. Our relationship with the project is to really act as a catalyst for economic development.”

Haha, ok so don't use the word "donating" the land... if you like contributing the land to the project - use that.
The overall point is Cedar Fair has very little to nothing to do with the Sports Force park outside of marketing Cedar Point to the athletes and their families. Their "contribution" of land was 12% of the project cost. CF doesn't own the SportsForce park, CF isn't operating the SportsForce park.
The "new m.o." of Cedar Fair is not to diversify themselves into sports parks. They are actually shedding products (their 3 standalone water parks) to focus on their core assets and operations - amusement parks and adjoining resort hotels/campgrounds.
I know what Dorney is getting in 2017!

Aside from making a tidy bundle of change off all those people with "free" tickets spending money in the park, and all the families who decide to extend their stay in Sandusky because they've got :"free" tickets to the park.
