Cedar Fair, L.P. (NYSE: FUN), a publicly traded partnership which owns and operates six amusement parks and five water parks, today announced that it has reached agreement in principle for the acquisition of Six Flags Worlds of Adventure, located near Cleveland, Ohio, from Six Flags, Inc. The transaction, which is valued at $145 million, involves the purchase of substantially all of the assets of the park, including the adjacent hotel and campground. Six Flags will retain ownership of all animals currently located at the park. The cash purchase is subject to a number of conditions, including the negotiation of a definitive purchase agreement, and is expected to close before the beginning of the 2004 season. Further details were not disclosed. The park will be renamed Geauga Lake.

One question remains unanswered:

Is this a done-deal, or is there the off-chance possibility that the deal could actually fall through & Six Flags is "stuck" with Worlds of Adventure for another year?

I seriously doubt Cedar Fair would announce details of how they will handle managing the park today during their conference call had they not been sure that the deal was set in stone.

Does this mean the Villain, Big Dipper and Raging Wolf Bobs will be maintained like Mean Streak?

They already were.

So SFWOA *could* do something as well as CP, huh Gonch? ;)

This is quite the surprise I must say indeed! Should be intresting to what cedar fair does with SFWOA.....Only time will tell I supose.....
One thing is Ghostrider is in LA area, and Mean Streak is about 90 minutes away from Geauga Lake. I hope they do maintain these woodys. Anyway, I like the Villain and Big Dipper way more than Mean Streak or Blue Streak. Of course, this is my preference.

While I am happy with this, I do have some problems with this. I am not sure if I can afford my first trips to sfgam and sfgadv now that I don't have a sfwoa pass anymore

Well I am sure that Cedar Fair & Six Flags will honor all Six Flags Season Passes for the 2004 season. Since many people have purchased passes with the former SFWOA park being listed on the passes it brings up a grandfathers clause. but in the 2005 season I am sure that will change. But if you really want to know just call up SF inc. or Cedar Fair corp. and I am sure they will happily answer all of your questions

Why are you sure about it? They already said that they wouldn't.
CF news letter said SFWoA passes have to be exchanged for GL pass. Also, other CF passes and SF passes will NOT be honored at GL. Oh, well. I guess I will not buy a SF pass this year although I am planning a visit to GL once this year.
WOW very interesting, I listened in to the conference call on the ioth. ( since I own sustantual shares in the company) and it was very interesting. I have owned shares and have followed the company since it went public in 1987 and by the most part , has done very well. This group of professinals know how to run amusement parks and do it very well. IM happy with the fransition. I have had very good luck with Cedar Fair and I hope to continue. there porfolio is always right in line and always on top. I wish them nothing but the best. Things to do this week, Buy as much cedar Fair stock as you can ,I did.
Gee, I wonder if this means I'll have to get a new uniform this year? I'm thinkin' the one that says SIX FLAGS just won't do. Seriously, I've gotten a new one every year. It'll be weird not selling Looney Tunes Merchandise. And I'll be pissed if they get rid of Shouka... that just means I QUIT!
What is the deal with SFWoA? I hear very negative things about it, and poor public feedback. This may be the wrong thread to post in as you all are talking about what is wrong and I am asking why, but after reading i still can't find a concrete answer (if there is one)
Ceadr Fair now as to change names for every themed ride in the park. Also Six Flags season passes will not work a GL neither will Cedar Fair season pass till the 2005 season. Thank god the dumb animals are gone they were wasting space in the park. They will be replacing the boom town with Peanuts and Snoopy caracters. I think the park will be alot better.

cedar fair will do alot to the park the park really sucks right now they have very bad employes right now but cf will get all new employes and keep the park cleen and put more coasters in the park and build a beter water park
