Cedar Fair third quarter revenue up 8% over last year

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Cedar Fair's third quarter net revenue was up 3% over last year. Excluding the acquisition of Geauga Lake, revenue was up 3% on a 1.5% decrease in combined attendance, a 3% increase in average in-park guest per capita spending, and a 6% increase in out-of-park revenues. Excluding Geauga Lake, combined October attendance was still up 4% between years and average in-park guest per capita spending was also up 4%.

Jeff, it seems that you selectively quote about as well as a politician. ...

You mean when you cause a big scene right? ;)

And yes, it is funny. Thank you! :)

Sorry about the feeding frenzy. Something about aloofness just irks me....even when it comes from a kid who probably doesn't know any better.

Ooops...and to stay on topic, I'll take 8%. Heck yah! Not as good as real estate these days.

Impulse..I have to agree with you..This is more entertaining than work. Although, I think we find it entertaining for different reasons. The people on this board are some of the funniest people that I know.

Anywho...I am happy that parking rates are "criminal" at most parks. That gives me the right to sue the park when lightning hits me and/or my car in the parking lot ;-)

Impulse-ive, let's see how long 8% increases in revenue continue with decreasing attendance. How much do I have to dumb down this idea for you guys? Numbers now = Ok. If trend continues = bad. Is this good enough?
And also, I'm 20 years old and only a year away from med school. I'm sorry if you're 40 and bleach your hair too.
I'm still waiting for my apology, Allan.
Actually a-hole, I'm 22, graduated, working, a homeowner, and apparently a lot more mature than you. Guess my Pitt degree hasn't gotten me far because all those Case Western people have beaten me out in this world. Where was it in life you said you were again?

You honestly think that we don't understand that continually decreasing attendance is a bad thing? Sure, it'll hurt the parks, but honestly, if the seasonal parks lose attendance while hotel guests, Castaway Bay guests, etc. increase, the company will still make money which is the whole point.

Oh and FYI, some people are naturally blond, and my Sophmore year my friends and I bleached our hair to stand out at football games. Oh well, guess that makes me 40!

Hey Implulse-ive which campus did you go to. My manager at Kennywood goes to PITT.
Main. PM me his name, I'll let you know if I know him, but it's unlikely.

Dude... give it a rest. A 1.5% decrease in attendance makes not a destiny for failure, or even a trend. It fluctuates every year, and given crappy weather and modest cap ex, that's expected! If you want to talk trends, look over the last decade or so. You'll find it's up and down year to year. The fact they did that well while not even hitting half of their attendance goal at GL (700,000 vs. 1.5 million, per the conference call) says a lot about the company's ability to control costs and look for ways to increase revenue beyond the gate.

And what do you have against 40-year-old hair colorers that live near farms and don't go to Case? You've got so much bad karma coming from so many different directions now that I'd keep my distance.

I know the market fluctuates. The only point is that CP's attendance has not been as good as projected for two years now. While I believe CP is heading in the right direction, it's still a little troublesome. But, I haven't sold my shares yet.
I don't have anything against guys who are 40 and color their hair. I dye my hair as well. I just didn't like your extremely condescending tone at the beginning of this thread, which I think is funny coming from a guy in Brunswick who runs a website. Is your statement about keeping my distance a threat? Indeed, I'll be rolling through Brunswick in just a few hours.
Impulsive, I'm impressed that you have a job and a house at 22. That's more than can be said for most. Where am I in life? Living in a dorm in East Cleveland and studying. Where will I be in ten years? In a house in Shaker Heights. Work now, play later.
Stephanie, keep waiting. Spend the time cheering Jeff up. Better yet, dress like a goth and cheer Jeff up. I know he'll love it :P
... and now we know why Ohio went the way it did. I guess arrogance supports arrogance.

Heh heh...too funny...too funny.

Jeff, I hope you're trembling. Dr. Wannabe doctor is going to come over and put you in the hospital.

What a tool! ;)

Thank you guy, you made many of us feel a LOT better about ourselves. Damn I'm glad I'm not like that!

The funny part is he still thinks somebody cares.

Have fun with yourself dude.

^^^ You just don't get it. You put Jeff down for his "condescending tone," yet you still keep dishing it out.

Also, weren't we talking about Cedar Fair and not Cedar Point. Remember those other little parks out there?

Lastly, what is so funny about a guy in Brunswick that runs a webiste? I must be missing something.

It's hard to believe that many of you could feel a LOT better about yourselves.

This guy is pretty foolish to think that anybody around here cares.

What another fantastic comback, Allan. You've graduated from making fun of Jeff's wife's education to taking cheap shots at the way Jeff's wife dresses. What next - an attack on the way I smell too? Or perhaps that I have cooties? I think you've graduated to a fourth grade maturity level. Way to go!

So let's see... you're right because:
I live in Brunswick (where apparently there's a barn).
Real successful people live in Shaker Heights.
I went to Ashland University.
Steph went to AU and JCU.
Case makes you feel important.
You're going to be a doctor (assuming you've already been accepted to med school).
People over 40 don't know anything.
Something about hair bleaching.
Goth chicks are better qualified to cheer people up.
I run a Web site.

Yep... all of those are reasons that a year of single-digit attendance decreases mean the fall of Cedar Fair.

If you want to be a dick to me, knock yourself out. But don't even start with Stephanie. That's the only warning you get. The only reason I haven't booted your ass yet is because your replies are obviously entertaining a lot of us.

Is it just me, or does MagnumAllan seem to know a little too much about Jeff's life? Almost seems a bit creepy.

If he makes fun of what Jeff had for lunch today or mention's his middle name, I'm going to be worried ;) .

... which is why I say bring out the pancakes.
As long as I maintain a 3.0 GPA, I've been accepted to med school since I was out of high school. As for Marilyn Manson, I mean Stephanie, I'll keep quiet. Peace out from East Cleveland.

Ahh man....I'm dying here! Jeff, thanks for not booting Dingy Howser! I needed something to cheer me up this week.

Weekend, here I come! ;)

Freaky, I meant that it was a nice reality check. I know I'm a loser, but dang, it could be a lot worse.

One thing to consider when looking at FUN's profits is just how bad the weather and ecomony has been in FUN's major market. IT's been so bad in fact, that I just moved from Lansing to Vegas. I needed some sun and a job, neither of which seemed to be available back home. The midwest region which is the market for MiA, CP and GL was hit hard with sucky conditions for FUN. Let's not forget to add the increase cost of gas. FUN has done an excellent job of managing it's parks once more. This shows most dramatically when compared to PKS.
