The Sandusky city commission approved Cedar Fair L.P.'s 10-year, 100 percent tax abatement on Monday. Cedar Fair, L.P., officials gave the city of Sandusky a look at its proposed indoor water park during the meeting as several park officials were on hand to present preliminary details.

"Since you're screwing us and our customers with this stupid parking tax, you sure as hell better give us this."

That's what I'd be saying, anyway. :)

It looks like it is all going to go on as an additional "wing" there to the Northeast of the existing building. That will infringe on a good amount of existing parking so it will be interesting to see how they account for that.

Your comments though Jeff are what I was thinking as well. Why that City would want to piss off one of its top three employers is beyond me.

Employers has nothing to do with it, it has to do with being it's number one source of revenue plus the fact that Cedar Point could annex the entire Pennisula and call it Cedar Point, Ohio and be a completely seperate town if they wanted to.

Magnum, wouldn't the City of Sandusky have you "give it up" so to speak? I'm sure they would have done that already if they could!

Not exactly, I belive Ohio law would allow them to annex themselves if they really wanted to push the issue.

Well, I am not sure they could annex themselves. You would need residents to become a City. I guess the folks that live on the chausee could conceivably try to do that. However, they would be dependent on the City for trash removal and water supply at the very least.

Florida law allowed for "improvement districts" which were set up primarily to provide for drainage and water control in what was then some bad, god-forsaken land. This is what allowed Disney to create the Reedy Creek Improvement District, which has it's on "commission" which, ironically, is made of of Walt Disney executives.

So if they move their parking lot to the marina, do they circumvent the tax? ;)

Well, I don't know Ohio law, but in GA you can't just "secede" from another municipality.

In Ohio I know that the state gets approval on township pieces that want to annex to a city. I believe they also have the final say on incorporating a new city. My city, for example, was founded in the 70's from a portion of the existing township. I don't know if you can just up and move out of a city.

Seems like some of the tubes are outside the building. Even if they do end up back inside, I'd imagine it'd be mighty foggy inside those tubes during the winter. ;)

The Great Bear Lodge in Sandusky also has these slides, and it appears to work well for them. I just hope everything's insulated well. :)

^ Isn't that the big place on the way to CP? Is it reasonably priced (I'm guessing no) and if it is, would anyone recommend staying there?

Yes, and there is one in Wisconsin Dells as well (I think?) I'm not sure about the pricing though...

It's pretty expensive, but the rooms are fairly luxurious.....it's actually a semi-destination in the winter.....

It wouldn't be logical for them to annex the peninsula (not that it would happen anyway). They own way to much outside of the peninsula where the city could decide to mess with them that way if it were to happen.

To be clear, it's not annexation... you can't annex something to nothing. There is no "Cedar Point, Ohio."
