Cedar Fair: sounding like Six Flags?

Why can't they talk about what makes the ride stand apart from other floorless coasters because when it comes to Hydra it has plenty of unique characteristics.

Yes, Hydra is unique. Still though...back to the soccer moms, or dads. Words ending with -est are easier to understand and more powerful than some sort of explanation as to how Hydra is unique compared to a bunch of coasters at other parks they really don't know about or care about.

I suppose SFGAdv's Medusa is pretty close by, but by that method, Medusa is just as different from Hydra than Hydra is different from Medusa, you know?

The biggest thing though is that the attempt here is to give a broad overview of the park. There's a different time and place to get into the details of each ride.

And by the way, no.

92 feet tall, 48 mph, vs. Hydra's 95 feet, and 53 mph. *** Edited 6/1/2006 9:36:43 PM UTC by matt.***

The two most powerful words in advertising are New and Free. When you can't use one or both, the -est words are next in line. Not just any -est words, either, for a thrill ride.

"Hydra - the shortest, slowest floorless coaster in the world!"

That'll pack them in.

With strict truth in advertising, you'd get:

"Hydra - the NEWest, greenest coaster at Dorney Park! Now FREE of any floors! And Hercules, the coaster so legendary, you can't even see it anymore!"

I'd stick with CF's copy, stretch marks or no.

No.

Dominator - 4210
Kraken - 4177
Superman Krypton Coaster - 4025
Scream! - 3985
Medusa SFGadv - 3985
Medusa SFMW - 3937
Superman / la Atracción de Acero - Unknown??
Hydra The Revenge - Length: 3198
Insane Speed - 2677.2
Batman - The Dark Knight - 2600
Dæmonen - 1850.5

Speed.

Superman Krypton Coaster - 70 mph
Dominator - 65mph
Kraken - 65mph
Medusa SFMW - 65mph
Scream! - 63mph
Superman / la Atracción de Acero - 62.1mph
Medusa SFGadv - 61mph
Batman - The Dark Knight - 55mph
Insane Speed - 53.4
Hydra The Revenge - Length: 53mph
Dæmonen - 48mph

With those given stats on all B&M floorless coasters.. Hydra The Revenge is Not the Shortest OR the slowest floorless coaster.

So with this information proven, let me rephrase your scentence:

Technically, isn't Hydra ONE OF THE "shortest" floorless coasters, as well as the SECOND "slowest"?

Now let me answer it:

No, Hydra is not the shortest or slowest floorless coaster. The shortest and slowest would be Dæmonen. *** Edited 6/1/2006 10:32:04 PM UTC by j_o_e_y__***

I think he meant shortest as in "not the tallest" but it applies either way.
I don't think you can blame Dorney's marketing department for this one. It is pretty clear whoever is incharge of propeganda at Dorney was probably on vacation at Holiday World so they called up his "equal" at their nearby sister park, Cedar Point. Without any records to market and a deadline to meet, this was the best the poor fella could do. This real man of genious deserves more respect. We salute you Mr. "I only can market world records" Guy. Have a Bud Light; you've earned it.

Besides, the legal assistant at CP in charge of quibbling records and defining the term "coaster" has informed me that there are several kiddie inverts with no floors.

Just FYI, this is one of the best and longest responses to this thread ON THE PLANET! *** Edited 6/2/2006 1:16:30 AM UTC by RavenTTD***

Yes, I meant shortest, as in height, not length. CF wasn't claiming a record length--it was claiming height and speed. Actually, I wasn't aware of the floorless coasters outside of the US--the only one I knew of is the Superman one at Movie World.

So I was one coaster off then. Hydra technically is the second shortest (height) and second slowest floorless coaster.

They could have pulled somthing like Hershey did with Great Bear--Pennsylvania's only floorless rollercoaster. Of course Hershey said inverted coaster for Great Bear (before Talon), but you get the point.

^ They are marketing it like that in the brochure. It says Hydra is PA's only floorless coaster. In the same brochure, they say Talon is the tallest and longest invert in the North East which I think is true.
^ And that's a good idea. I think this (CF's website) might have been the first place I saw this stuff about "one of the tallest and fastest" in ref. to Hydra. Not sure who came up with that--maybe it was the CP marketing guru :)

What I want to know is why the hyberpole is "SF-esque"? Are you telling me that no other parks/chains do the exact same thing to promote/market/hype their rides?
I agree that the repetitive use of "one of the talles and fastest" gets annoying by the third time. But I don't have a problem with any park exaggerating in its publicity.

Really, how many people would get off any of those coasters (this site not included) and say the ride wasn't one of the tallest or fastest? Or the park said it goes 53 mph, but it only felt like 52.7 to me? (Besides, those speeds are only the maximum the coaster could reach, depending on weather and other factors. And the coaster might only experience that speed for all of one second.)

The parks probably don't even mind people posting threads like this in a coaster forum. If nothing else, it means they already got your price of admission to ride the coasters in the first place.

How many times have you come off of some "mid-level" ride and heard someone between 8 and 80 proudly tell their friends that they all just rode the tallest and fastest coaster in the world with the most loops? Well, let's see, just this year I've heard it near Superman:RoS (SFA), X-Flight, and Dominator. Last year I distinctly remember hearing it around Phantom's Revenge, Talon, Nitro, and Hypersonic. People don't care about facts when it comes to parks folks. That's why this board only has like 3,000 people per day and not 3,000,000. If everyone cared, there wouldn't be such a thing as a coaster enthusiast, you'd just be "normal".
