Cedar Fair Entertainment Company (NYSE: FUN), a leader in regional amusement parks, water parks and active entertainment, today announced that it has sold Knott’s Soak City – San Diego, a stand alone water park in Southern California, to a subsidiary of SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed and are not material to Cedar Fair’s results of operations. The sale of the San Diego water park has no impact on the Company's other properties located in California.

“For this particular property, a unique opportunity presented itself to team with SeaWorld to offer a premium product to its guests in the San Diego region,” said Matt Ouimet, president and chief executive officer. “The net proceeds from this sale will be reinvested in our core assets including the multi-year refreshment of our hotel properties in Sandusky, Ohio that was announced earlier this month.”

So people only meet at the show, visible to all?

If everybody saw them talking a lot at IAAPA, people on these boards would be going crazy that something major was going on.

Enjoy the rest of your day at America's Rockin' Roller Coast! Ride On!

And occasionally you do get to see something. I thought nothing of it when I saw R. Kinzel and G. Story standing together at IAAPA some years ago, but I'm pretty sure the Geauga Lake sale got started either just before or just after that moment...

You should have intervened. RideMan is the reason Geauga Lake closed.

Here we go again. Six Flags set that lot on fire. If anything, Cedar Fair delayed closure by a couple of years. And my guess is that the park would still be open today except for (a) the Paramount Parks deal, and (b) a couple of spectacular failures at Geauga that may have resulted from all the preventive maintenance that Six Flags failed to do...

Are you referring to the RWB and S:UE derailings?

My author website: mgrantroberts.com

I never heard anything about a derailment on S:UE, though it doesn't entirely surprise me; I thought most of that ride's problems had more to do with the parts it shared with Wicked Twister. That, and I think they had an incident that was more of an alignment issue with one or more of the motors; I don't think I can blame Six Flags for that one. I was at the park the day that RWB went off the rails (and bashed up a bunch of ledger boards in the process), I watched as the brake failed on the Spider as it was unloading (very minor incident unless you were the kid who had to be handed down), and I heard about a particularly spectacular failure on the log flume that apparently emptied the flume into the Double Loop pits. Double Loop was apparently also the source of an operational failure that resulted in the installation of safety belts on all the Arrow loopers in Cedar Fair parks.

So was I! I was on the Dipper when the buzz went through the train that something had happened. We were stuck on the lift at the time, waiting for an attendant to come up. I had two very good rides on RWB that morning, but I noticed it felt shaky.

We arrived shortly after the derailment - a friend walked up just after we entered the gates and said "did you hear about Wolf Bobs?" Sure enough, there it sat out on the track, never to run again... :(

Many enthusiasts were there that day. There was an event going on. I forget if it was ACE or GOCC though. There was at least one enthusiast on the train when it detailed.

I've never been a member of ACE, but I think that was Coaster EXT. I was able to attend as a member of MACC at that time, and did the rest of the ACE convention as a guest of a member. At least that's how I remember it, but then, I can barely remember what I had for supper yesterday :(

I think your right. Coaster Ext was a park event that was held on the Saturday after CoasterMania.

Yeah, I remember driving to Aurora from Sandusky that Saturday morning.

Confirmed: it was the last-ever Coaster EXT.
