Cedar Fair reaches agreement for 49ers stadium, gets more favorable lease terms

Posted | Contributed by Scottt

Great America owner Cedar Fair on Friday agreed to allow the 49ers and Santa Clara to build the home field on one of its smaller lots and let fans park next door. The football franchise will pay $12.5 million. Starting in the next decade the park could keep its profits until it hits well past $64 million in revenue if Great America makes $10 million in capital improvements. The park, however, has been struggling lately and hasn't hit the revenue benchmark in five years.

I wonder what could have possibly changed at Cedar Fair for the company to take an about face on this entire issue and become a better neighbor?

Something spelled O-U-I-M-E-T might be part of it, but I don't view this as them being a better neighbor. I view it as them finally getting something out of the stadium project instead of, well, nothing.

I agree with you Jeff...but I'm not sure the deal ever gets done with Kinzel at the helm. The "fresh look" by Ouimet may have made the difference. I just wonder what else his "fresh look" will impact?

"Revenue enhancement opportunities." :)

Article says it was the last and biggest issue in terms of parking for the stadium. It may just be the case that resolving the issue got pushed off until everything else was addressed. Sometimes I think folks like to see how everything else is resolved until bigger issues are resolved. More ofthen than not, I think its just human nature. Why decide the bigger issue when other issues still need to be addressed.

I've never noticed it before, but is that the 49er's training field adjacent to the overflow lot?:

Traffic will be truly horrifying in Autumn, how late in the season is SFGAm usually open though? At least the conflict is minimal and limited to what, 8 times a year? But it makes sense that they're accepting these new terms now that the pot is sweetened. Plus that stadium rendering, though poor quality and tiny, looks really awesome.

Well, according to the link you just posted, it's the Santa Clara Youth Soccer Park.

Actually the link I posted was pointing via lat. and long. to the football field adjacent to the soccer fields, the one with the 49ers logo in the middle.

That has to be it. It has the 49ers logo, the building says 49ers.com and and the link says San Francisco 49ers so I think it's safe to say that's indeed their practice field.

Cedar Point will always be The Roller Coaster Capital of the World, regardless of the number of coasters they have.
