Cedar Fair (NYSE: FUN), a leader in regional amusement parks, water parks and active entertainment, today announced that it has completed its national search for an independent director. Tom Klein (49) has been appointed as a Class III Director of the general partner with a term ending 2014.

Mr. Klein is president of Sabre Holdings, one of the world’s leading providers of technology to the travel industry. Prior to joining Sabre in 1994, he held a variety of sales, marketing and operations positions at American Airlines and Consolidated Freightways, Inc. In 2006 and 2007, Tom was recognized by Business Travel News as one of the industry’s “25 Most Influential Executives.”

“After a national search of independent candidates conducted by Korn/Ferry International, we are pleased to announce the addition of Tom Klein to our Board of Directors,” said Matt Ouimet, Cedar Fair’s president and chief executive officer. “His understanding of distribution and technology solutions make him a valuable addition to the Cedar Fair board and will add to the depth and quality of our decision-making process.”

In 2010, Klein was appointed to the Corporation for Travel Promotion Board of Directors by U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gary Locke. He also serves on the executive committee of the World Travel and Tourism Council.

The Company announced its plans to expand the board to nine members in August 2011. At this time it was announced that Ouimet would join the board as the eighth member and a national search for a ninth independent candidate would be commenced.

Hey, didn't Sabre buy Dunder Mifflin? ;)

Does anyone have a general idea of the make up of the board now? I'm wondering how diversified the levels of expertise are and what is being brought to the table. Merely my curiosity.

Here's the list:

It's still not what I'd consider a group of "A players," but this new addition I think is a great start.

Well now we can be sure it's OK! :) I wonder what their sell point is. As of today, they would roughly double their money if they sell (assuming it was $11... did they score any for less?).

Q is out of Fort Worth, TX. Sabre Holdings has their headquarters in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Maybe Q had a hand in this?
