County officials' reassessment of property values at the 186-acre complex in Fruitland and Dalton townships has more than doubled what the company will pay in taxes on its land this year. The reassessment hiked the taxable value of the amusement park's land in the two townships from $2,260,803 in 2001 to $5,539,400 in 2002. The tax in question is not for the rides or buildings, but the land itself.

Way to shoot themselves in the foot.
An addtional $2 million a year invested in the park would help it grow into a destination park; the sort of destination that would draw more people, more hotels, more businesses and substantially develop the overall tax base.
Talk about a bunch of short-sighted and stupid politicians....

the additional 2 mill is the increase in taxable value, not what CF would be paying. the tax bill is about 256 thousand....up from 103 thousand the year before.
