Cedar Fair Entertainment Company (NYSE: FUN), a leader in regional amusement parks, water parks and active entertainment, today announced a multi-year expansion project for its Carowinds amusement park located in Charlotte, North Carolina.
"The continued growth in the Charlotte market presents a unique opportunity for our Carowinds amusement park, which we believe is ready for record-breaking attractions," said Richard Zimmerman, Cedar Fair's Chief Operating Officer. "Over the next three years we intend to make several significant investments in both the amusement and water park areas, including new rides and attractions, new and upgraded food locations, and general infrastructure improvements. We plan to expand the capacity of Carowinds in all areas to appropriately serve its market and provide our guests with a 'Best Day of Summer' experience each and every time they visit our park."
The Company, which recently opened a satellite corporate office in Charlotte, expects the expanded park will draw additional tourists to the already popular Charlotte market. It will invest more than $50 million over the next three years and expects to hire an additional 15 full-time and approximately 270 seasonal jobs to support these new investments. As with many of its capital investments across the country, the Company will look to hire local companies to help with the design and construction of this multi-year expansion.

I will admit, Travis, that modern pop-country or whatever it is is pretty much my least favorite thing. I'm not a country fan by any stretch, but I do like some modern artists like Zac Brown.
Give me Hank Williams (the first) over anything modern.
Metallica's "Momma Said" is as country as I've ever gotten. And for a Metallica song, it's very low on the totem pole. Other than that, I stay away from the genre. I respect it (to an extent) but it'll never be played on my radio.
But it'll definitely work out well for Carowinds. I'll have to make a trip down there when they open the new giga.

Quick, who am I?
Great, CF is investing $50 in Carowinds over three years, and $3M at MiA over fifty years! *eyesrolling*
Wait, wait, it'll come to me....
I love classic country: Dolly, Loretta, Tammy. And some more contemporary stars, like Kathy Mattea or Patty Loveless. But by and large, the Taylor Swifts of the world? Could not care less.
Life is something that happens when you can't get to sleep.

I enjoyed our visit to Carowinds about year-and-half ago. But the problem was, as it being a hot & muggy weekend, not one single restaurant had working AC. All we wanted to do was sit and relax but couldn't due to the heat. I found an employee and asked if they had something against air conditioning, and he just stuck his nose up, ignored me and walked away!
I stopped at Guest Relations on way out. Guess what? Their AC worked so well, I could feel the cold air coming through the open window as I was chatting with them!
The heat was making my wife cranky. So I ended up driving the 30 miles to drop her off at hotel and returning to park to ride Intimidator rest of day. :)

with so many reasonably priced hotels nearby, I'm wondering why you stayed so far away?

Jason, it was Labor Day weekend 2012. When I booked room, all hotels closer were $150-$200 per night. So, driving 30 miles for $50 room was not a bad thing! I know holidays garner higher rates. But something else must have been going on that weekend.

Here's a nice look at the new toll plaza coming next year.

The photos are a broken link now. Also, their is no link for Carowinds in the Portfolio drop down menu. They must have been removed.

The link that Tek posted, for the short time it was up, clearly showed a ride with a Wingrider seating configuration...
Not that I believe it'd be anything but Leviathan 2.0....
Fury 325? Is that the rumored name? lol That's pretty uncreative.
A 325 foot tall wing rider sounds like fun, however, the layout doesn't have any noticeable inversions. I suppose it could be a wingrider train on a gigacoaster out-and-back layout.
I'm still cringing at that rumored name. (In a monster truck even voice...) FURY... THREE... TWO... FIVE!!!
"Hi, my name is TRAVIS... SIX... FOOT... ONE!!!" lol
Anyways, nothing is going to stop me from visiting Carowinds next year. I'd bet money that the new ride opens when the park does for the season, even given the scale of the coaster.

The link I posted was a presentation to the city council. They showed gatekeeper. Most people discounted it bring a wing coaster when it was announced that it would be a Giga.
Parts of the layout have been known for a while. This is the whole thing.
This and a new toll plaza and more infrastructure next year song with this years work are making Carowinds a far better park. The new Harmony Hall is wonderful and the food was really great.
