Cedar Fair reported yesterday that combined attendance at its parks for the month of June increased 5% from a year ago. Over the same period, average in-park guest per capita spending was essentially flat, in part due to the mix of attendance among the parks. Cedar Point in particular has had a 6% increase over last year.

I'm guessing DP is flat to slightly down (which really is a good thing--last year's attendance was a record or mighty close), WOF slightly up and crawling back towards the million mark and VF easily the biggest decliner. They'll say it's due to bad weather (last Friday they had to shut the park down due to rain) but actually it's due to poor decision-making.
Actually, there's so much to it--beyond the lack of capital expansion--that I really have to submit a composite TR to explain it all.

Yeah, Dorney had its best year ever last year. I'm surprised CP is up as much as they are, as the weather hasn't been great.
You know they had a power outage the other day and kept the park open a little longer to compensate? How cool is that?

The thing that amazes me is that it rarely gets mentioned how popular this park truly is. They are only open May-Sep really and they rank in the top 10 attendance year after year with other parks that are open year round like Busch Gardens Tampa, Knott's, Disney, etc.
Makes you wonder if open year round what the attendance would be? Hmmm.
Anyone who visited CP recently tell me how the lines were? What was your longest wait? I'm afraid for my trip.. I'm going there on August 9th and 10th probably the busiest time of the season.
Sunday the line for Millennium Force was hovering at about 30 mintues all day long. Based on the parking lots the park should have had a 'typical' Sunday crowd, but apparently everybody was in Soak City.

Thanks for the tip Dave. Or maybe raining and cold would work in my favor as well. 30 minutes I can handel... 3 hours is not something I'm looking forward to. :-)
Phil, I don't think they were even in the Top 15 last year. There were only 2 or 3 seasonal parks(SFGAdv and PKI are the only two I know of) that had better attendance than CP, so I agree with you overall that they do exceptionally well.

CoastaPlaya: The park was open last Friday. Are you thinking of at the end of June when we had all the heavy rains? I know we were open last weekend 10pm close.

Whoops--I meant Friday before last. I was there until almost 10 last Friday myself.
