Cedar Fair announces 2000 attendance figures

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

In a rare move, Cedar Fair, LP announced its attendance figures for 2000. The press release says that while their expectations were not met, due primarily to weather, their totals still set a record for the company. Cedar Point and Valleyfair were up, Worlds of Fun was flat, while Knott's and Dorney saw decreases in attendance.

Read the press release from Cedar Fair.

For all Cedar Fair amusement park fans out there, i wouldnt sweat the decreases in attendance to dorney and knotts because you would have to think that dorneys attendance would go up because of Talon. Knotts might go up but im not sure that the sky coaster will attract that many guests. CP and Valleyfair will most likely stay level or slightly rise this year. Worlds of Fun, i wouldnt know to much about. But it may decrease.

I think they may have released this information to satisfy Wall Street. Six Flags got hammered this year, though I suspect it had a lot to do with the debt they have in a cooling off economy. Cedar Fair is a lot more attractive when you consider that they don't have the debt to kill them in a recession.

I believe that Cedar Point will re-coup their loses in 2001! Dorney Park will be "alright" but Worlds of fun need a new rollercoaster to pull them thru. And not just any rollercoaster, they need to build something innovative or at least big!!
How much will DCA or SFMM hurt Knott's in 2001? Do they all fight for the same market?

I agree that Dorney should see a resurgance this year due to Talon. Afterall the last major coaster they added was Steel Force in 1997.
Whoohoo! VF up 6%! Yeehaw!

You have to realize VF's weather stunk, too. Generally, any storm front that visits CP country passed through Minnesota two days earlier. Until August, I never had to water my lawn--it was that bad.

Hats off to VF's promotional staff for their award-winning TV and radio spots, and to their sales staff for piling in the corporate picnics during July and August.

Keep up the GREAT work, and we'll all be seeing some B&M metal soon.

I wouldn't say Cedar Point has "losses" this year. It was still a new record for them. Also, keep in mind that Knott's has had more peeps through the gates than Magic Mountain lately, which is surprising given the difference in number and magnitude of rides.

Well that's easy Jeff, Knott's couldn't be in a more convenient area, right smack dab around the corner from Disneyland, in the middle of large city. SFMM is pretty much in the middle of nowhere, where you literally have to drive out of the way of everything to get to it. People seem to think all the LA based parks are all sitting together drawing off the same crowds. Once you visit there you'll realize that's the farthest from the truth.

I think that Dorney will recover from its down-fall, because Talon will give it a lift and hope for the best weather wise.

Talon is going to rock, roll, and take its toll!
I think this competition is healthy for both parks...As long as their is no CP-bashing or SFMM-bashing going on, and on, and on....you get the point,(no pun intended)...I think that CP should worry more about SFO, and same goes towards SFMM w/ KBF....that would be an epic Cedar Fair/Six Flags battle in about 3-4 years...I think records were made to be broken...I thought it was funny last year though...Goliath claims the title, all of a sudden M-Force takes it away, SFMM pissed at CP, Nagashima Spaland builds SD2K, USA pissed at Japan (again)...the point is records will always be broken and that's the fun part about...so just sit back and watch both parks pack in the coasters...the only thing I think that will give SFMM the advantage is they aren;t running out of room by no means, and CP is in dire need of a lot of land if the intend on keeping up...I think SFGAdv.,PKI,and SFO will be joining the race soon enough...
