Cedar Fair acquires more land for Dorney

Dorney Park's owner will pay $680,000 for a 6.78 acre Lehigh County parcel once intended for a war memorial and will use the land for parking, according to a tentative agreement between the parties. County officials said Cedar Fair L.P. of Sandusky, Ohio, owner of Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom in South Whitehall Township, will acquire the former development site of the Korea-Vietnam Memorial pending zoning approval to use the land for parking, along with several other conditions.

Perhaps this will allow Cedar Fair to expand the park into the current lot, which would be neccesary if the park wants to keep adding big rides.

As long as the season passholder lot stays right where it is, I'm cool with it. Dorney has spoiled me. Last Sunday the passholder lot was filled to the brim so we parked in the regular lot. We were two rows back and off to the side a bit and I was thinking "gee, we're so far away".

Sounds like good news to me. I wonder how long before we see parking there?

More land doesn't always mean more big rides, especially at Dorney with the locals always fighting the zoning and noise ordinances, but it is a good sign that they may want to expand away from the residential homes in the area!
Maybe they will use the current overflow lot for park expansions. I have always thought that would be a great area to use, even before it was filled in. It would give them a reason to re-open the second station for the Zephyr, and make some sense out of the most under-used restrooms in the park. Another possibility would be to relocate the picnic pavilions to the overflow lot and use their current locations for expansion. Both of these ideas could work without using up any of the current main parking lot, and would make much more sense than parking basically in the middle of the park. The article even mentions the possibility of a parking garage on the new land. Although it wasn't confirmed, it would really open up some space for development.

A parking garage on the new land would make the most sense for the long term. Sounds cool - as long as the passholder lot stays right there by the gate, of course :)

Yeah we heard you the first time gonchar, lol. I love the bids they received, $70,000 verses $522,000. Hmmm, I wonder which bid they'd take?

Do you think the passholder lot should stay where it is?

Speaking of the passholder lot, We were able to use our Cedar Point passes to park in that lot for free on Thursday. Nice perk.
Wow, nice bonus. Wish it would work the other way around. :)

Wow that is cool. Never really thought about it, but it's a good thing to know.

And surprising. IIRC, the CP literature mentions at least once that the parking pass is good only at CP.

Brian Noble, sorry if I wasn't clear - at Dorney you park for free just by showing your season pass (you don't have to buy a parking pass). We were able to show our Cedar Point season passes and we parked for free. It is the parking lot closest to the entrance. Definitely a nice perk!
