Cedar Fair Entertainment Company today announced that Lehigh County has accepted its $2.75 million bid to purchase 6.75 acres of land adjacent to Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Pending approval from the Lehigh County Commissioners, this land acquisition will enable the Company to continue enhancing the guest experience at the park through the introduction of new rides and attractions, future park development and the expansion of parking facilities. The transaction is expected to close 30 to 60 days following approval by the County Commissioners.

"We are excited about the expansion and development opportunities this additional space will provide to Dorney Park, as well as the increased economic impact it will have for the county," said Dick Kinzel, president and chief executive officer of Cedar Fair. "In addition, we appreciate the opportunity provided by the Lehigh County Commissioners to bid on this property and would like to thank them for their ongoing strong support of regional economic development and tourism. We look forward to expanding our ability to provide unique, family entertainment at a great value in the region."

Peplain? :p

I understand the complaining about the used rides there, especially if they are enthusiasts who have already rode them at another park. A "new" ride that is old and used and already been done before isn't as exciting as a new experience.

Although, I think Dave was just humorously observing.

I don't think used rides are bad if they are decent and reliable rides. With Dorney, that has been a problem. I also wouldn't mind the used rides if it wasn't at the expense of other rides though to be fair, that has been a problem with Dorney for years even with new rides.

While Possessed is good, the ride has a ton of downtime. It has been closed on 2 trips to the park this season and last season, of my first 4 trips to the park the ride was closed 3 times and closed part of the time on 1 trip. I also think it was part of the reason Laser was removed. Maybe it would have been removed anyway but as soon as I found out Dorney was getting Steel Venom, my first thought was Laser would be leaving (I know they aren't in the same spot and existed together in 2008).

Demon Drop also has more downtime than most rides at Dorney, at least when I have been there and was added at the expense of the bumper cars. I'm not sure it was the same at Cedar Point or not but it's very rough especially the transfer from the end of the drop to the part where the car reverses and with a modern S&S drop tower, really wasn't needed.

Invertigo has a bad history and not that exciting after just getting another inverted shuttle coaster and considering the problems the ride had at Great America and issues with the one at SFA and Liseberg, I'm not happy about it.

Who's worse. The complainers...or the people who complain about them?

Hey.....The elevation back there, and inside the current section of park, closest to that plot, could be good enough for a Mountain Flyer clone.

I was in no way complaining, I just find it humorous that CF seems to use Dorney as a dumping ground of rides that other parks no longer want or that are pulled from CGA.

Before you can be older and wiser you first have to be young and stupid.

Dave:

There's a reason why I've started calling the place Cedar Fair's Dumpy Park.
