CCI Woodies

OK, I want to know what the big hype over CCI is all about. I love the woodies I've been on, and I mean LOVE (Mean Streak, SFMM Psyclone, Colossuss) but I wanted to know why everyone can't get enough of CCI woodies? What's the big deal? Also, forgive my ignorance, but Shivering Timbers is CCI right? I just got my AAA guide and there's a pic of it on the back. ST looks like a buncha hills. There's gotta be more to it than that. I want to ride a CCI but until then, I'll have to rely on someone to fill me in.

The Only CCI I have ridden is the Villian and it's awsome! It gives amazing airtime and never lets up on speed. It is my second favorite wooden coaster just behind Thunderbolt at Kennywood.

Villian rocks - Out of the 22 woodies I have been on, this is my only CCI. But if this one is anything like their others, I can't wait to try them out.
SHivering timbers is air-time heaven! It seems to never end and the trick track is a nice touch. It is my only CCI so far but will be trying Villian next weekend--can't wait!

Oh, RockDown, if those are the only 3 woodies that you have been on, I must say that I am sorry. You simply have never had your socks blown off by a woodie because the 3 woodies you have ridden are nowhere near the best of the best.
I don't know when you went to SFMM, but shame on you for not going to KBF when you were in SoCal. If Ghostrider was open when you were here, that is. The Ghost rider was not the first woodie to blow me away, The Beast took care of that, but GR WAS the first woodie with "less than impressive" stats that absolutely shattered my low expectations. Ghostrider back seat is Woodie Heaven.
Also, you mention that "airtime is overrated" get on a CCI woodie as soon as possible, (back seat that is) and I'll bet that your opinion will change.

Gotta ride 'em all!

Villain is sadly the only CCI I've been on, but it was an instant favorite for me. A friend of mine (Sean "Irishcost" Flarahty) said that if he had not been on Ghostrider the week before, Villain would have easily been his favorite.

I'm not sure what the formula is, but it at least appears that the CCI's peaks are sharp and drops from being level are quick. Quick change in elevation will always create huge airtime. B&M does this quite well on Apollo and Bull, with the sharp peaks.

I think the key to CCI's reputation is smoothness. They build rides with wicked, twisting layouts that don't beat you up because of the beauty of their tight track work. Case in point - the Hurricane at Myrtle Beach. The laterals and sense of speed (because of the tight turns) on this thing are like nothing I've ever experienced, and yet the ride was never uncomfortable - i.e. no "Dinn shuffle". I've ridden a buch of CCI's - Hurricane, Rampage, Raven, Legend, Shivering Timbers, Villain, Silver Comet, Zach's Zoomer, Hoosier Hurricane, and although I haven't loved all of them, there's not a dog in the bunch, and three of them (Rampage, Raven, ST) are in my top five. Oh, and by the way, ST IS "just" all hills - and it's an incredible ride (IF you like airtime).

I agree that the real key to CCI's sucess is the smoothness of the ride combined with using nearly every trick in the book! They are fun filled rides that don't let up, obviously designed by folks who know & love their woodies! Those that read my earlier post raving about BOULDER DASH know how much I loved that experience. It just blew me away... In addition, VILLAIN, LEGEND, RAVEN, and even HOOSIER HURRICANE delivered great excitement in well designed packages. The amazing thing about all these is the rush you can get from riding, and yet emerge from the ride without broken ribs, sore backs or headaches! I used to think there was no big difference.. but once you've done the best coasters, the poorly designed/dull coasters really stand out. Bravo, CCI...Keep em coming!

Yeah but that's it. Both MS and SFMM Psyclone beat me up. And I loved it! For some reason, Psyclone was one of the biggest rushes ever! I'm afraid that a CCI will be TOO smooth for a woodie. I went to SoCal last summer and Ghostrider had just opened recently. We almost went to KBF but we were surprised the admission was as high as it was. We thought Ghostrider was the only good ride so we didn't go. I regret it now. :( Also, I think airtime's overated because of airtime like Magnum's. Magnum's airtime is not cool. It's way too forceful on your legs. I can make a bunch hills that are too small to go over at the speed you're going. I like airtime like on MF's third hill where you float but you're not being choked against the lap bar. Also, on Gemini when you're toward the back of the train and you get pulled down the drops after the turns. All of those are quality airtime. I'd rAther be thrown from side to side in the car than have airtime.

ROCKDOWN I am with you when it comes to enjoying the abuse from a woodie. I live for it. Now I just got back from riding the CCI villian at SFO and I loved it. I wouldn't say it was all that smooth but fast very fast and awesome air time. When I saw this coaster I was very diappointed because it
had steel supports and wasn't completely made out of wood. It didn't make that much of difference and since I do ride with my hands that makes it a little rough. Plus just think of the maintence of these coasters we should a lot more of them.

Villain has the Kidney Buster drop after the first turn around. Oh yes, there's nothing smooth about that! In fact, because of the continuous gradual turning throughout the course, you're always getting banged around.

The difference between that and say, oh, Mean Streak, is that it's much faster and you don't have to fight the ride (because it doesn't have a brick wall high seat back). Not to mention this ride actually has air time, and the back will keep you floating most of the ride.

So far i've been on 5 CCI's. Raven, Legend, Villan, and both sides of Twisted Sisters. The Raven, Legend, and Villan are all super great rides tons of air and strong laterals all the way. Even though the Villan has trick track it is going so fast you don't really notice it.The Villan SCREAMS around the course. The Legend has tons of air on 3 of its hills and SCREAMS as well. The Raven is another great ride that doesn't let up. It could have easily had an extra 1000ft. to the length of the ride. Twisted Sisters were my 2 let down CCI's they don't compare to the other three.
I think GCI rivals CCI though they have curving drops and hardly no straight aways in them except for the lifthills and brake runs.

I've been on CCI's Great White in Wildwood and it was awesome. I think people like CCI because they build coasters with tons of airtime.

Haven't been on a cci yet but after seeing the boss at SFSTL I can't wait to get on one. I almost cryed to find out that I could not ride it when I visited the park.
