Catapult Falls. Launched log flume at Sea World San Antonio

Absimilliard:

Forget any of that, how do I get that job where I get to ride around in a log flume all day?

I was curious if there were any new videos of the ride, and conveniently someone had uploaded a full POV an hour prior. Here it is in all its glory:

It's... something?

Yes, of all the rides at Sea World San Antonio, Catapult Falls certainly is one of them. :)

Maybe it's because I'm old and remember great flume rides like White Water Landing, Log Jammer, and the long-forgotten and abandoned Wilderness Adventure Ride at Toronto's Ontario Place, but this just looks, well, meh. The intro part looks as slow as Shoot The Rapids II was, the "launch" seems sort of like it's there just for the sake of being able to market a launched flume ride, and the final drop looked to have all sorts of trim brakes at the bottom and over the airtime hill. Obviously, and I learned this long ago, I can't judge a ride by its POV video without actually setting foot on it. But honestly, nothing really stood out to me that says "You have to get yourself to Texas and ride Catapult Falls!" in any way.

Thanks for sharing the video. I'm still sort of scratching my head over what I just watched!

Well at least the sign is HUGE

I don't get the trim brakes at all. Was this the reason why the ride opened a year late? Is this another example of Intamin genius at work? I'm sure it'll be a fun ride in person, but it really loses something by crawling into both of the splashdowns.

Another thing that bugs me is the complete lack of any guardrails on the launch and elevator lift. I'm assuming there's something keeping the boat on the track, but again this is a company that does not have a 100% track record on keeping flume boats right side up.

RMC should get involved in reprofiling the old flumes. I just wonder how they'd keep the water in the flume for the Zero G roll? 😜

This. 100%

I have no idea why, but the Americana/Lesourdsville flume certainly was the wettest I have ever been on a log flume.

Thankfully the boats don't have those ridiculous restraints like StR did. Looks very cool, a little bit of theming, a cool lift and a launch. But needs to be longer, and more trees, why is it that the ancient Arrow log flumes are still the best ones, it can't be that hard to recreate them, unless they aren't thrilling enough.

This is one ugly ride.

Promoter of fog.

The reason the arrows are better is because all the Intamin log flumes have flat portions where you just float slowly down a boring trench. The Arrows have rapids and move swiftly, Intamin makes rapid rides I don’t know why they don’t use that expertise to make the non drop stuff more fun.

I wonder if part of the reason for that is because parks don't want to pay for elevated trough and huge pumps anymore so there's less vertical elevation to work with on the ground.

Yea. That looks very underwhelming.

But I’m sure I’ll check it out sometime this summer. Water rides are always popular in Texas summers obviously.

Having watched the video, I genuinely don't get it.

I'm not a flume person as it is, mind.

I love a good log flume as much as I love some of my favorite coasters. And this doesn't excite me.
