Cascade Canyon, deconstruction photos and a tribute

Posted | Contributed by sfdl dude

Cascade Canyon deconstruction has gone underway at Six Flags Darien Lake. SFDLnet is remembering the ride with tribute photos along with construction photos of the set of waterslides located inside Barracuda Bay. The ride is being torn down for good and will be replaced with a new attraction next season. Still no official word on what will take its place.

why is Six Flags tearing down a attraction when SFDL has so much land? They have the ability to build on the unused space? It seems kind of ridiculous for them to take out attractions.
I was thinking that too, but then I realized that they weren't exactly the safest slides around. They were exciting, but a few of them made me uneasy. The park probably figured they were a lawsuit waiting to happen.
Yes, they were slowly rotting away and water was leaking throughout the entire slides...

...although I do agree they were, and still are, the best slides ever to hit the park yet. Oh well, I am sure our new stuff will make up for it.

yeah, i loved Cascade Canyon, not many people rode them which made lines short most of the time and they were fast, especially for slides that old. But it must have been a safety problem, which is easy to understand. Hope something good replaces them.

Wasnt one of the slides closed for a long time? I remember on my 99 visit that I rode the two operational slides and were one of the better water attractions at the park.
Man, those were some old slides....

Yes, they were closed for a long time...

...and I think it's kind of sad that this story is being milked out for as long as it is. Considering it wasn't any MAJOR attraction... just a set of 4 slides, it's really nothing.

I guess that just goes to show you how desperate fans of SFDL are, that the destruction of some waterslides makes big news... but yet we have no idea what's new for 2002 to either A) go in its place or B) just go anywhere!!!

I am wondering if anyone has rode the speed water slides at King's Island?? I have, and boy do those things hurt. I cut my back open and had to get stitches. I can get pictures out to anyone who wants them. I got 500 dollars in free merchandise and 4 season passes along with getting our money we paid for our tickets back. I live in Indiana and being 15 the season pass was kindof boring but I managed to go 8 times. Then  I sol all of them in like mid June it was that bad really.
