Carowinds Question

Good chance I may take a long weekend trip for my birthday two weeks hence. I'd hit Carowinds and Busch Gardens Williamsburg.

I understand Nighthawk at Carowinds, which I haven't been on, has been shut down for a while. Anyone hear whether it may or may not open anytime soon?

Thanks.

Carowinds is still waiting for a part to come from the Netherlands. They are hoping it will arrive and be put in place by Labor Day weekend to have Nighthawk up and running. Obviously nothing is guaranted.

I was at Carowinds on saturday, and Nighthawk is still down. I didn't inquire about it as I have ridden it before, and don't like it. However, Intimidator was good, especially the single rider line.

On a sidenote, I got to ride both Intimdators Saturday. The KD is by far the better of the 2.

I know that the thought of missing a credit sucks (Trust me, I've been there), but unless you really like the Veko flyers, I'd say don't let it being down stop you from going. It's by far the worst of the three.

Thanks, Tek. Not knowing too much about manufacturers, I'm not sure which other two are Vekoma. I'm inclined to think Batwing and....?

Stop me from going? Pssshhh...

The only reason I didn't go on in '06 was the line combined with the heat. I had some psychological issues with flyers at that time, but was willing to try it. I like 'em now. Just don't like the waits.

Batwing and Firehawk. I haven't ridden the other hawk in it's new home yet, but it and Batwing are actually decent coasters. Nighthawk is really REALLY rough. And hurts. A lot.

It's interesting that you say that. I thought Nighthawk was pretty enjoyable during my one and only ride on it earlier this summer. I would have even ridden it multiple times, if the one-train operation wasn't so AGONIZINGLY slow. However, it's the first flyer I had ever been on, so perhaps I was too blinded by the novelty to notice the general suckiness of the ride.

I vote for blindness ;).

My first flyer was Batwing and I thought it was the greatest thing in the world in 2001. Now? Not so much (I rode it last in 2007, skipped riding it last year, even though I didn't have a bad ride in 2007, I just don't care for it now that I've been on 2 Beemers).

The layouts of the Vekoma flyers are excellent, infinitely better than the B&Ms (I'm including A:IR, Manta, and Tatsu there). The trains themselves aren't too comfy though.

Top Gun by any name remains one of the top 3 inverts I've ridden.

The Sally interactive is NOT to be missed! :)

I actually really loved Manta (just got it last week) and thought the layout's interaction with the terrain was perfect (not to mention the ambiance in the queue).

Overall I really like the layouts of the Vekoma's because of the flip at the top of the lift hill, but they spend way too much time on their back. Both the styles of loops are cool.
