Today I went to Carowinds and it was terribly hot. This made for extremely short lines. I started out with Intimidator, which was a walk on. It was running well, but it annoyed me that they still had the no preferred seating policy on a such an empty day. I ended up in a seat that didn't really have that much airtime. Also, the lap bar was black so you can imagine how that felt in the blistering heat. Whatever. Next I hit up TR. I rode it on the Silver Side(SC) and that side only ran one train and the ride operators weren't putting any effort into dispatching quickly, but I got good airtime on my possible last ride on it. Then I walked to Fury, paid for the locker so I could store my souvenir cup. I then lined up for Fury, and it was a walk on. I asked the ride host if I could ride it in the front, and he responded by pointing out the sign that said "Due to long lines, no preferred seating allowed", and asked me if I could read. I wasn't excactly happy by his response and replied by saying that the sign said "Due to long lines" and then asked him where the long line was. I typically don't do this to ride hosts but this annoyed me quite a bit. A few rides later I was in line and three people were sent to the front, and the host asked for a single rider, and since no one wanted to come in the heat with me, I was alone and got to ride front row, which I personally like the most. Then after the fifth ride of the day, I was done. I greyed out a ton because I was dehydrated, but I wanted to get my twentieth ride on Fury, which meant riding it five times. After Fury, I rode Woodstock Gliders two times, which I might have done a bit to extremely. Then after 3 hours of Carolina sun, I was toast and went home. In addition to that I might be going to BGW sometime this summer, so that should be cool.
Yeah I know. But that means short lines so then the line for low capacity rides (cough cough Tempesto cough cough) won't be as bad.
And good luck with that. I've never known high heat to equate with short lines, especially at a busy summer destination like Williamsburg, especially where there's no water park inside the gate for guests to run to.
Sorry about your cold.
Still, a day at 100 degrees won't be as crowded as a day at 80 degrees. I don't even know yet what the weather will be so I'll see what happens then.
I've never noticed nor heard of temperature effecting queue length. Maybe you were just there on a light day.
"The term is 'amusement park.' An old Earth name for a place where people could go to see and do all sorts of fascinating things." -Spock, Stardate 3025
SFoT tends to have marginally smaller crowds on super hot days. It never turns a heavy day into a light day but it might turn a heavy day into a medium heavy day.

Calvin: "If your numbers go up, it means you're having more fun."

Yeah, I don't know what the weather will be "sometime this summer" either.
The amusement park rises bold and stark..kids are huddled on the beach in a mist

I bet Carowinds was having a business as usual day, but in that heat folks know to hit the water park rather than roast on the dry side. The same thing happens at KI then in the evening the rides get a little busier.
I was there on Thursday too. First timer at Carowinds. Nice park and I really enjoyed myself. Everything was a walk on accept Ricochet. I liked Intimidater over Fury. I noticed that even lines in the water park where not bad at all. Very very low attendance day do the heat! I really enjoyed exploring this new park as I close in on 200. I know I will be back to Carowinds very soon!
Nice Trip report!
Thanks,
DMC
