Carowinds Hypercoaster?

"Thanks for your e-mail and your suggestions. We normally make plans several years in advance for the new products that we are adding to the park. As of right now, there are no plans for a hypercoaster in 2002 or 2003. Since we are a smaller park, we don't add large rides as often as some other parks. Top Gun, our largest addition ever, was just added in 1999, so it's unlikely that we'll see a hypercoaster in the next few years. We can always keep our fingers crossed for a few years down the road, though. The plan for 2002 is for seven new rides and attractions. Ricochet, Carolina Boardwalk, a film in the Action F/X Theatre called Meteor Attack, two new Nickelodeon characters and two new shows are planned as of right now. Ricochet and Carolina Boardwalk are currently in the early stages of construction(clearing space and prep work) so there are no construction pictures right now. If you want to check back after Christmas, we may have something by then."

... Thats an email I got which kind of sucks because I have been hoping they will get something big like a hyper, unless he just doesnt want to tell me but oh well. Atleast they are getting a wild mouse which is fun and re-theming an area which needed major work. I suggested a FOF but he never responded to that one, what do you think they should get and does anyone know how much land they have LEFT?

Curious, as PKD had pics of *their* Ricochet while there was only site prep and track pieces laying around.

That does suck!  Top Gun is an awesome ride but Carowinds needs more to become an amazing park like it could be.  I think the park needs a hyper coaster from any company really.  A Wild Mouse is nice but come on...The other Paramount parks get much more attention(save Canada's Wonderland, which was ironically my old home park:)) with PGA getting Stealth, and PKI getting SOB, and PKD getting Hypersonic, along with other rides.  All Caroinds gets is some cruddy "3-d" movie(well it is better than James Bond;))Nickelodeon Flying Super Saturator was pretty cool but it isn't anything great.  In addition to never really getting anything, most of the roller coasters at Carowinds are short(Vortex, Carolina Cyclone) even if they were cutting edge at the time of their instalation.  So all in all anything BIG would be good for my home park.

In reply to the land question, I don't think they have much.  Maybe a bit behind Hurler.  And who did you write this letter too?

Does Susan Lomax work at Carowinds? Or for all the Paramount parks? Because I might e-mail someone about PGA's future.

I dunno, you could try an email her and see what happens?
i'm pretty sure carowinds owns the land between the parking lot and the interstate     they could someday move the parking lot there  and then expand into the current lot

but will they....

as for a hyper    if they ever build one i hope it dives under the bridge  at the front gate   similar to top gun at the back gate

it could be built along the service road there   where the train used to be

If Carowinds does indeed have a major coaster installation planned for an upcoming season, there is an excellent chance that they might not say anything about it.  Why let the secret out so far in advance?
True, thats why I said he might not be telling me the truth, but he could of atleast said that something major is in the works because it takes years in advance to plan these things which would make sense if he told me that now... oh well :(
SFMWManiac87, could you post if she does work for all of the parks, because I would like to e-mail her about some ideas for PKD.  Thanks.
She is the Paramount Parks VP of Public Relations and please do NOT email her asking a bunch of questions about what parks are going to get as it is her business address.

Okay,  Top Gun is awesome but so is Volcano and Hyper Sonic(at least it seems).  Okay, give me those three, now!:)  Seriously though, Top Gun is good but as parks, PKD is quite superior to PC and I think that is obvious

Obvious to whom? Sorry, but I catagorically disagree. I was really pleased with Carowinds and I'm not a big fan of PKD. As far as I'm concerned, the only advantages PKD has over Carowinds is Grizzly and Flight of Fear. Which again *I* would glady give up for TG:JGC (my 2nd/3rd favorite invert...with Alpengeist).

Now this *area* is much better than Charlotte as we have HersheyPark, BGW, etc. But one on one, I prefer Carowinds.

I kind of grew up on the place, so I can't complain about it. Although, I think it's still the closest bigger park to where I live now. The past few years, we've gone north to the Virginia parks, and I'm sold on them by comparrison. BUT, I haven't been since Top Gun, I've been a bad North Carolina resident, next season I need to make it back.

I would love to see a hyper there. I think I said it on another thread, but a big ride, like a hyper, themed like pirates, Blackbeard's Revenge:), I would be there every week.......

BTW, there's some kind of facility or something, I think they MAY have hazardous materials there, I even remember reading a warning about IN CASE OF EMERGENCY or something about it, so they may not own much of the land to the farthest from the Interstate. How much where next to the road and elsewhere, I've always wondered. I always thought TR looked lonely.

Just my thought, and I do like the idea of Carowinds being in both states which is cool and makes it a home park for NC and SC, but they could of built it somewhere else. NC has soo much empty land, atleast they could of had a better chance of expanding... I guess that would defeat the purpose of the name Carowinds. If you do think about it, they have enough land to expand on, look at how they put Top Gun in. If they are creative, then everything should have enough land.
Heavy Metal would have been a cool name for the hyper if it had been built during the waynes world years
Yes, guys. It's her business address.

Do you expect her to tell you everything? I doubt it.

There was a hyper planned, but it was scrapped.

Will

Anyone know why it was scrapped?
