Carowinds construction update - 20 Sep 03

Can you believe that they're not wasting time at all?! I was there yesterday the 20th of September, and was surprised to see how fast moving they are with Stealth.

Some tracks, yes tracks, are already at Carowinds on the grass next to the parking lot near the north gate. I'd say much of the station has arrived, some other various tracks (I'm pretty sure at least two of them were corkscrew track), and some lift hill parts.

Smurf Island has been flattened out, some gravel has been prepared for the south entrance to the Smurf Island. Pink markers have been set up in various places.

Click here for pictures. Enjoy. I actually have a lot more, but these should be sufficient. E-mail me if you'd like more. If you have any questions about certain pictures, please do not hestitate to ask.

Here's to 2004 as a good year for Carowinds!

Edit: pictures URL updated--moved to my blog. Enjoy!

Cam, that was one of the funniest things I've seen since the original movie that was adapted from.

I was there on Saturday too, it was mobbed. I saw the Stealth track and I really hope they paint it. Vortex and Drop Zone look bad enough, a new coaster at least needs a new coat of paint. Also, do you think the trains will be refurbished, same, or new, and if so will they look like Stealth's or more like X-Flight's with the zero car.
Well both those links say "Nicer page to come soon". But I think I'm the only one that completely stoked about the move! I live in South Carolina, and have never ridden a flying coaster so I'm verrrry :) about this!

I'll definately try to get down to PC and compare Stealth to Batwing here at home.

Cameraman, that was total ownage. I have to go back and see the original again now..:)

Here is a link to a different site with an update on the construction. While not as smooth or comfortable as X-Flight (probably Batwing too) Stealth was still a bunch of fun. I'm sure it will be very popular.

I think the upper restraints on stealth's trains are probably more comfortable then the ones on Batwing/X-Flight,Stealth's upper restraints had a wider surface area which means better support for your chest while the new style that was used on Batwing has much thinner straps that really dig into your armpits during the ride.
Yes, Saturday was most definately mobbed. I've never seen that many people at that park before. And I'm glad to see the construction move along so smoothly. The view across that area is so much better now. They should've flattened it out years ago.
