Carowinds: Borg Assimilator

Associated parks:
None

The Borg Assimilator: It has a nice setting right at the middle of the park with all of the water underneath it. Every inch of the ride can be seen from the walkways under the ride. There are constant sound effects being played from the speakers in that area of the park that sound cool. The ride experienced some major downtime during its first two days of operation and ran only one train both days. The loading process is also very slow. I heard people complaining about how long it took to dispatch a train.

Theming: The only theming there is the large sphere located near the first corkscrew. But the sphere is really cool looking and has like a dark copperish look to it. I guess the new color scheme is part of the theming also. Oh, and we do have an interesting Borg Assimilator entrance sign.

The Ride Itself: There were sections in which the train rattled a bit but not so much that I couldn't enjoy the ride. To me, the restraints were very comfortable. I got 3 rides in on it today (Sunday) and managed to ride in both the front and back rows. I loved the horseshoe in the back row. That vertical loop pulls some strong G's in two different spots. I wasn't too fond of the corkscrews because of the shuffling leading into them. Once in them though it wasn't too bad. Overall, I liked the ride. This was my first Vekoma flyer so now I can compare it to B&M's version. I think that the Borg does more interesting stuff than S:UF because the only real thing that S:UF has going for it is the smoothness and the pretzel. On Borg the constant rollovers were disorienting and I like that aspect of the ride.

If you thing Borg's twisted then try riding Batwing or X-Flight.

While the ride layouts are nearly identical to Borg's the extra helix & inlines make it even more disorienting...the only thing Borg has over the 2nd gen flying dutchman coasters is it's location & walkway interaction.

Man if only SFA would put a midway under Batwing's drop or inlines like they did with Borg,I'd love to get a close up view of the ride from that vantage point.

It sounds like it's smoother (due to Premier reworking the trains) and has more/better theming too. It's a clear winner for Carowinds once two-train operation starts and the crew gets used to loading and dispatching faster.

Same as when it was at PGA.

If that's the case then what exactly did Premier or whoever do to the trains?
