Carowinds announces Intimidator for 2010

Posted | Contributed by ridemcoaster

Carowinds' new Intimidator will stand 232-feet (23-stories) tall at its highest peak and send guests plunging down a 211-foot first drop at a 74-degree angle, reaching speeds in excess of 75 miles per hour. The second (178-feet) and third (151-feet) hills are also taller than any roller coaster at Carowinds. With 5,316 feet of track the Intimidator will feature high speed twists and turns including seven steep drops.

Visit the official Carowinds Intimidator site.

What would the Buzz be
Without haikus? Terrible!
Don't say that again.

Hobbes: "What's the point of attaching a number to everything you do?"
Calvin: "If your numbers go up, it means you're having more fun."

It seems to me that CB has a much larger community of individuals who have positively contributed for many years. This shouldn't be terribly surprising, considering -- as someone previously pointed out -- there simply isn't as much to talk about over at PB. It's a much smaller area of focus; threads tend to cover much smaller/more specific topics and topics tend to get repeated more often. So contributors tend to eventually lose interest and drop out of the continuing discussion. As a result, there are probably five times as many long term serious contributors on CB as on PB.

This narrower topicality works against PB (or any other park-specific forum) in a second way. Coasterbuzz tends to attract far fewer 13 to 17 year old semi-literate fanboys than Pointbuzz. Why is that? Well, most teens have only been to one or two amusement parks. If they come to a site like CB, probably 90% of the discussion means nothing to them. After one or two posts on the one thread about the park they know, there's not much else there to do. So they leave. But for those kids that have been to and adore a place like Cedar Point, a site like Pointbuzz is nirvana. There they find thread after thread after thread, talking about this one place they know and love. And they're able to think of something to say, even if its unoriginal, inane, and delivered without the benefit of grammar, spelling, or punctuation.

I really think it's this distinction that tends to bring the quality of conversation down over there -- that, plus nobody's managed to get rid of me yet. ;)

That being said, there are a number of longer serving members that do work hard to uphold standards at Pointbuzz.

*This post guaranteed haiku-free.

::wonders to self, if similar conversation is going on right now about CBers on Point Buzz::

Well, since none of you are 500 foot uber loopers with LSIMHydro launch systems you aren't being talked about over there.

Oh, if I put my mind to it, I'd have you over at PB before you knew what happened! ;) Now, about that Hershey thing... :)

Working on it.. :)

Busch has gotten a tad crazy the last 3 weeks.. So we are trying to figure out an open window in September. Its for coasters.. If I have to leave her to go I will!!

(hopefully she isnt reading this... possible edit coming ;))

Lol, the conversation about people not staying on topic on another forum is happening in the Intimidator topic which just seems to not be any real topic now. I get the feeling sometimes that riding roller coasters and talking about them has become too much of a "high art" to some, and "not just kids stuff". Yipes, I thought it was all about fun. I just think it's a bit silly that's all. I guess I don't go to PB so I guess I don't see all of the hooligans running around over their crazy hair and their music.

The lack of activity at CP certainly hurt PointBuzz in terms of quality conversation, no doubt. There is a core group of people there that we (meaning Walt) have asked to try and help to bring it around, and I think that's starting to happen. As I've said here many times, any community is only as good as what you contribute to it.

The other nice thing is that CoasterBuzz has its strongest traffic as a workplace distraction. It's not that I don't welcome younger folks, but there is a tone that's set here that I really dig. For the most part we don't have people competing to be most liked or have the most awesome personality. That would annoy me.

I think it sounds good. Remindes me of nascar;)

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

You guys want a song the just SCREAMS NASCAR?

Check this out!

That reminds me of this one guy who quit coming around a few years ago. I hated that guy. I'm sure you know who I'm mentioning. Please don't say his name.

How very true. We're here because we want to have a good bull session with other people who enjoy coasters. There's a mutal respect here for other people views and expeirences.

Yeah, we may get a bit off topic now & then (I'm guilty as charged on more than one occasion. :) ), but doesn't ANY good bull session end up where you least expect it?

BTW, ALL of us have AWESOME personalties!

Though going back to the work comment Jeff made.. I've realized I talk to people more on here than I do people who sit in the same office.. weird..

Ut Oh, ridemcoaster. It sound to me like the internet is taking over your social life at work. lol

I suppose that happens to a lot of people.

Am I the only one who works when they are at work instead of sneaking internet sessions? I'm on the computer at work all day on Mondays and Fridays, and sometimes on Tuesdays through Thursdays, and I always wait until I am at home to let the internet take over my social life. lol

At work I'm on the computer all day, and sometimes I need a break from that chinese puzzle to see what's going on over here. Especially during this time of year when lively conversations are happening surrounding announcements, etc.

You know how some people prefer the company of their pets? Even though I've never met any of you, I prefer the company of my CBuzz friends to that of my work "friends" any day!

Does anybody have an idea how many Platinum passes Cedar Fair sells across the chain, vs. individual park season passes? It seems that with 3 of the parks getting big attractions (at least we think so), it's a great opportunity to sell a lot more platinum passes. Or doesn't the GP really care what's going on at parks other than their home park?

It also seems to me that there could be more of a concerted effort on the individual park websites to highlight new attractions at other parks to convince people to purchase platinum passes. I know of people from Allentown who have gone to Dollywood and Busch Gardens instead of KD. With all due respect to ridem, why not try to direct them to KD or Carowinds instead?

Oh that happened over 15 years ago when I first got into IT as a career.

For me, its talking with other Network Engineers is only so fun for so long.. Eventually it becomes a whizzing match, when we get into perimeter security conversations.

At least here for me on CB, it doesnt get to that point and if it does, I just click the next link. Sides its good people here.
