Carowinds and Kings Dominion hotel advice

Can anyone recommend a good place to stay near Carowinds and/or Kings Dominion? Nothing fancy, price is a key factor, pool and breakfast would be nice. Thanks!

Twenty years ago I stayed in a Best Western directly across the road from Kings Dominion. It was basic but fine and you couldn't argue with the price. Google suggests it's now called the OYO Hotel Doswell.

Kings Dominion we usually stay right across the street.

When we visited Carowinds its always on our way to or from another place so we haven't spent the night right around the park.

I will say that I do not recommend the Days Inn across from Kings Dominion.

That pool and breakfast is gonna have to be really nice...

That ^ must be your breakfast from Fyre Festival.
I know, I was disappointed too.

Better than what the NBA players got from WDW.

I stayed at the Days Inn at KD years ago and I wasn't impressed.

While convenient and cheap, I remember it being overall dirty and basic and I wouldn't stay there again. When there's a Denny's attached to the hotel, that's a red flag....

I don't even remember a Dennys. I just remember the hallway stink

For Carowinds, I previously liked staying in the Hilton Garden Inn at Ayersley. It's a nice hotel with good rates. However on my last visit to Winterfest there, 20 some cars were broken into at the hotel parking including mine. So after that i stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn or Hampton Inn in Pineville.

For Kings Dominion, the Hampton Inn in Ashland was good but the rate wasn't always the best. The one at the airport is farther, but usually has a better rate.

My family stayed at the LaQuinta across the street from the park. You can walk to the park and save on parking, and the hotel was new (at the time), very clean and well worth the price.

With 5 people it was nice having a suite with 3 queens in it. I hate having to reserve 2 rooms for my family.

I stayed at one of those Hilton Garden Inns near Carowinds many years ago. It was reasonably priced and the hotel was really nice, and very well decorated. I looked to see if I could remember which one, but I can't.
