Can't Trust Nobodies....

I was thinking about this the other day. What if somebody on this site was a person from a major firm. You never know. I already know the PR Director from HW is here but maybe somebody else is, somebody that we don't know about...

Call me SpongeBobAlex.

Yeah, perhaps Anton Schwarzkopf is not really dead and he is just hiding out while posting on here under some inconspicuous name.

From reading posts on here, I will say that there are a very few who I actually take as being associated with a park or "the industry" in a way that can lend a voice of "expertise".

There may be some more who may be associated with a park, but I have to question the capacity. (i.e. will a "sweep" really have that good of info?)

There are still others whom I suspect may be having delusions of grandure. Anyone can claime anything on the anonymity of the internet. I mean I could claim that I need to get back to the parliment meeting since I am the prime minster of England... and there is nothing that you can do to truely dispute that simply by reading this thread.

-----------------
Kind of hard to take a post as objective if a park or coaster name is part of the "user name"

I haven't seen Agent Johnson around much...but he seemed like a fairly credible "source." There are one or two people that come to mind that CLAIM to be "in the know," but I wouldn't trust anything they say.

I know for a fact we have several senior park managers, manufacturers and even ride mechanics that post here, and even more that lurk. Paula is the only one I can think of that identifies herself.

The parks may not build exclusively for the enthusaists, but who better to come up with wild new ideas than us? We're always looking for our own ways to make the next new thrill and if we post it out here, it's free property for someone to modify, use and turn into the next multi-million dollar attraction ... and we're all happy that we get to take credit for coming up with the initial idea. Who can argue with a free "thinktank"? Even if it is just a bunch of punk-kid enthusiasses (mostly).

Oh, I can assure you that there are park management types participating here. One of them tracked me down on my recent vacation, in fact, and specifically identified CoasterBuzz as his reason for knowing me... :)

I've had that happen, RideMan, not anyone from the park's management, though. It's kind of weird being in a park, and having someone pick you out of 10,000+ people. lol
I cant remember names, but there seem to be a few who you can tell by mannor of posting, knowloge etc,or just knowlogable people, I always like to hear what Shaggy has to say about PKI.

Last months issue of Funworld had a very good article talking about where to find info on the web and telling park execs to stay on top of whats out there. They listed 6 or 7 websites and guess who was on the top of it???? Yep, Jeff's little baby, Coasterbuzz. If you would like to read the article, I have scanned it and placed it on my Yahoo Briefcase here.. http://briefcase.yahoo.com/bc/cgodsey/lst?.dir=/Misc.&.order=&.view=l&.src=bc&.done=http%3a//briefcase.yahoo.com/

Congrats Jeff on the excellent Industry advertising. Also notice that the once all wise and powerful website, thrillride is still mentioned. Is that an omen or what... ;)

oh Lord, guess I've probably already *offended* all of those folks I'd like to work for....;)
RideMan's story sounds vaguely familiar to me :)

Oh you'd be surprised who lurks on these forums. One well known person recently e-mailed me to thank me for being one of "their" biggest defenders. I was shocked, but also realized that, duh, why wouldn't some big names want to keep track of what we think of their rides?

I am sure there are quite a few, this is the biggest enthusiast "hangout spot" on the net. I am glad they don't indentify themselves, I would be terribly tempted to e-mail them with stupid questions.

I think most of them who lurk around here don't post too often, they just want to know what we think. There are also probably quite a few that aren't even members, they just see what we say.

Thank You for challenging TOS: The Ride. We hope you enjoy the rest of your day, here at SFCB.

I. Am Anton Schwarzkopf. Why does it seem when I say my name, everyone says "Gsnudtheit (Sp?)?"

Yes, I can also attest that some of them are here. One, in fact, remembered meeting me at a specific event, then saw me again at another sister park and mentioned reading my trip report on CBuzz. I know there are people here from Cedar Fair and from PKI.

There would have to be some of them at least reading the posts. It doesn't seem that ANYONE from Six Flags does though (kidding:))

Where else could you get what people are really thinking about your new ride or park in generial than right here on Coasterbuzz. If I were an amusement industry bigshot, I would read this site every day.

I would be surprised if anyone in the upper ranks of the amusement park industry didn't regularly scope the boards to get all this raw unfiltered feedback. Where else but from forums such as this could you possibly hope to get this sort of valuable realistic feedback. From the oft-repeated newbie post, to the constant 'What's your favorite coaster" post, to the heated discussions over the techniques and innovations of ride design, to the earnest speculation of a mark's wishes; sites such as these serve the community twofold.

(thought)Also makes me wonder if sites like these get any sort of anonymous funding from park companies without the webmasters knowing the source. That would be kinda cool.(/thought)
