Canobie Lake Park seeks approval for Euro-Fighter roller coaster

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

The Planning Board will consider the addition of a new roller coaster at Canobie Lake Park tonight, in what is the amusement park's first major request of the town in three years. The new roller coaster, which is called the Gerstlauer 320 Compact Euro-Fighter ride, would stand 75 feet tall at the peak with a footprint of about 150-by-200 feet on a grassy section near the park's Yankee Cannonball roller coaster.

True, but it still adds overall capacity to the park. Me thinks these will be the latest installations in the future for Six Flags. SFGAm since they didn't get Chang I think will install one of these in the next couple of years since they take up little space which Great America lacks for anything huge.

I think this is likely the way they go as well. Unfortunate, as the two consecutive mouse coasters they built were followed by a kiddie coaster. These are great looking additions for small parks, but large regional theme parks?

Woosh! (Hand over head jester)

No Michael W, Moss. That is Canobie. I'm searching for "Ya Teh Park" (possibly in China) on the internets. I can't find it anywhere.

There's a reason for that.

[url][url]Vater - Canobie Lake Park is in Salem, NH. It is about 2.5 hours east of SFNE and LC. it is land wise the 3rd largest behind SFNE and LC. It have the largest dry park ride count of any New England park ahead of SFNE. it is more then 100 years of and is owned by 3 separate family that are on their second generation of ownership.

I have a friend that I correspond with in email quite a bit that lives close to that park. He tells me its a very traditional park but quite nice for its size.

It is a very traditional park. It opened in 1902 and was bought by the current owners in 1955. Many of the traditional rides are there and they have made a point to keep a few classic rides like the 1933 Cannonball, and the travers Caterpillar. It is An Amusement park in every sense of the word. Though the owners have added a couple themed areas.

Ah. Never heard of that one lol

The Caterpillar alone is PLENTY of reason to visit. Idlewild has the only other fully-functional one left in the US.

Of course, next year brings the TGG woodie nearby-ish at Quassy, so....

The caterpillar is run very well. There are a few rides worth making a visit to ride. Cannonball, Mine of Lost souls, Policy Log Flume, to name a few.

Quassy is around 3 hours from Canobie. an easy stop on a New England trip. I often hit Quassy in the morning and LC in the afternoon. If any of you are planing a trip to the area. I Hope you can make the time for as many of our local parks as possible. Nearly all fly under the radar but, I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

Gator, does the caterpillar in Myrtle Beach no longer feature a fully functioning canopy?

The last time I visited, Clint, the canopy was non-operational. This was quite a while ago (the last Myrtle trip was a FMP fly-thru), but the mechanic I ran into said there were no plans to make them functional again...

Boo! On my last visit to the 'new Pavilion' at Broadway, with Matt, it (and some other rides) weren't running (Mainly due to the place being dead). I hate that it isn't likely to function anymore. Especially since all of the rides are so well maintained and look so nice that came from the Pavilion.

The approval has been postponed pending a traffic study.

I have also posted concept art for the coaster on the Whalom forums:
