Canobie Lake Park or Funtown

This summer Im going on a trip to Lake George and have one day left over to go to only one park. Since iv already been to SFNE and Lake Compounce I was thinking about going to Canobie or Funtown. For any of you who have been to both which one of the two would be the better deal and would be more enjoyable. Also is there anything else close to either of the parks to do? Thanks in advance.

Canobie is better then funtown and i think a $ cheaper, but funtown has a very small water park, and i think it cost more to get in. Canobie has 4 rollercoasters to get your count up, funtown has 2. they both have S&S towers but i think that the one at canobie is better, you get good airtime cuz it is a double shot. They are really small parks but since they have towers they are better then lake compounce or great escape, imo even though i havent been to the lake, or great escape. There are alot of amusement parks in NJ but nothing in maine or NH.

I have never been to Canobie, so I don't know much about the rides there. If you decide to go to Funtown, get the Funtown Splashtown combo thing.

Reasons you should go to funtown:
-Funtown has a water park (additional charge).
-Excalibur at Funtown is in my top 5 wood list.

Reasons you should go to Canobie:
-Canobie has more coasters than Funtown.
-There are no inverting rides at Funtown.

The S&S tower at Funtown is a Turbo Drop.

Both Funtown and Canobie Lake Park are very nice places, but if you can only visit one I would choose Canobie Lake. It has more rides in general, and, although it is not a theme park exactly, it has a few very nicely themed sections. The atmosphere overall at Canobie is delicious and it becomes a magical place at nightfall. Being at Canobie Lake always makes me feel like a kid again. You will have a fun time if you choose to go to Funtown, and I recommend it to anyone who is in the area, but I feel that Canobie has more character, personality, and charm.
I went to both parks on the same day in 2001 and have to say I prefer Canobie Lake. I'm just dying to get back there. It had a very classic feel to it and make sure you go at night. Funtown is still good though, just not as good as Canobie, IMO.
Why don't you just spend half the day at Canobie and half the day at Funtown? They can both be experienced in a half day.

3-Yankee Cannonball

Reason #1 to go to Canobie: The Yankee Cannonball, aka the airtime machine

Reason #2 to go to Canobie: Like what has been said above magical at night

Reason #3 to go to Canobie: They have a catipiller that still puts its top down

Reason #4 to go to Canobie: Mine of Lost Souls, a very nice dark ride

Reason #5 to go to Canobie: Great log flume

I am a little bised though, havent been to Funtown and Canobie was my first amusment park and home to my first roller coaster (the cannonball at age 3 no less). It is really a great park, wish I would have had the time to go back this year but alass :(

I never been to FunTown but Canobie should never be passed up apon. The Yankee Cannonball is one of the best woodies out there and The park is beutiful...All the rides are nicely themed and the park is very clean. Theres not a single thing I dislike about the park and you definitly should visit there.

Get your assss to Funtown for the opening gates, hit the S&S, Galaxy, take about ten laps on Excalibur and then head over to Canobie for the rest of the day. Canobie is the nicer park with more to offer, but Excalibur is a sweet CCI that you really should not miss.

Actually its a funny story...I am 6' 3" so yes I am tall, however when I was 3 (1986) there was no height limit on the ride. I loved it, however my mom says that I would have proably not stayed in the car if it wasnt for her holding me down. Anyhew, when I came back the next year there was a height limit and I was too short, boy was I pissed. At age 5 I was able to ride the Cannonball again, along with the LNM and Big Thunder Mt. So there you are

I was at both parks about two weeks ago for the first time. Canobie is the better park in my opinion and would be my choice if I could only go to one park. Funtown on the other hand is also great and Excalibur is the best coaster that either park has to offer. It really gets better as the day goes on. Also Funtown is about ten minutes away from Old Orchard Beach. Since you asked about other things near the park. There is an ocean beach with a pier and also a small amusement park called Palace Playland w/ 2 coasters (Galaxi, kiddie). If you are looking for the better park go to Canobie. If you want the better coaster or would like to visit the beach then go to Funtown.

My suggestion would be to go to Canobie until about 3 or 4 and then make the drive to Funtown for some night rides on Excalibur.

If I had to choose, I would pick Funtown for Excalbur alone. It's an excellent coaster, especially at night! We went to both parks a few years back. When we went up there this past weekend, we choose to do Funtown only. Excalibur doesn't seem to get much of a line either. This past Saturday it was never more than about a 3 train wait. Plus, as someone else mentioned, Palace Playland at Old Orchard Beach is very close to Funtown. There's 2 coasters there. In fact, the Galaxi there became my 500th coaster this past weekend. :-)
