What do you mean "like Bigkirby"? You find me the post where I said that. I don't appreciate personal attacks like this. Anyway, it's nice to see something like this go to a smaller park imo. Kudos to them for working in the snow to get this thing built. This should help them compete with Quassy and Lake Compounce.

You emailed me and said and i quote

"Incase you are still wondering about Canobie 2002, here is there phone # from their site:

Maybe they did plan on an S&S but couldn't plan it or finance it in time. S&S says it takes over a year to plan one (even though they are clones, go figure). Maybe Cedar Fair or SDC could buy Canobie and work on it.
Have a nice day!

That is the exact email which i kept.

Key word there being 'maybe'. Anyway, I'm sure Kirby is pretty happy to be 'wrong'.

Notice my key words:

maybe they couldn't plan or finance it in time. Fact: They do take over one year to order and plan. This came friom S&S's website I believe. I never said it wasn't true or wouldn't happen. As I recall, you kept asking if this were happening and I emailed you the phone number so you could ask them (I don't live in New England so it would have been a hefty long dist. bill). And maybe SDC of Cedar Fair could buy it and improve the park even further, especially with this new S&S masterpiece (why is it only 100 ft?). Anyway, as Starcoasters said, at least this is a smaller park in a heavly competitive area (maybe not as much now with Whalom knocked out) and they were able to make what is probably a multi million dollar addition to compete. Also, why do you have a :( in your sig? It makes you seem depressed. Either way, we win in the end with another S&S out there :)

Ahh. I can't tell if you two are fighting or not.

Doubleshots have a spaceshot start, and and turbo-drop finish.

Smileys: : ) (With no space inbetween)

We have a Double Shot at our "growing" park Wild Adventures (WA). They are really nice rides, extra intense air....and even the second launch has a "pop"! I like the ride better than on the taller towers, where the top of the ride floats back down.

Hoping the local parks make use of the rides from Whalom.

I like Canobie Lake. I remember fondly going there often when i was a kid, and the Yankee Cannonball was my first coaster ride. It's a clean, friendly, family park. Sure, the double shot is a good ride. Especially for a park without any big name coasters (the newest actual "coaster" is an arrow corkscrew that's been there more than 10 years).

But, unfortunately, i still don't think that this addition will make me any more likely to go to the park. I'm not one to support corporate parks over independent ones, especially Six Flags. But, in terms of rides, there's nothing at Canobie Lake that isn't topped by SFNE, which for me is equidistant. They have not one, but 3 S&S towers, which are 200 ft. tall. Not to mention a Vekoma SLC and Boomerang, which combined are at least on par with, if not better than an Arrow corkscrew. Throw in two really intense woodys and oh, say, the number one rated steel coaster in the world, and why would I even bother?

Now, like i said, Canobie is a great park for atmosphere, but let's face it. People want good rides. What I don't understand is why they didn't go for something a little more original, like a CCI? A new CCI can't be much more than a tower, especially if the coaster isn't that tall (i.e. Cliff's NM coaster). I'll drive all the way to CT to ride Boulder Dash, even though the rest of Lake Compounce isn't very exciting at all, but I won't even drive the hour to Canobie to ride a half-assed tower.

I guess it boils down to what they think the GP wants, vs. what enthusiasts want. I'm just disappointed that, yet again, Canobie opts for a ride that mostly everyone has already been on instead of being creative. Props on the name, though, at least it's not called Batman: The Half-Assed Tower. =)*** This post was edited by nelson324 on 3/24/2002. ***

I don't think we are fighting, just a "discussion " ;)

I don't know if SFNE is run like our SF, or if they actually care about their customers. Besides the fact that they (SFNE and Canobie) are in different states, they have both got a niche in their area and they are also 80 miles apart (source rcdb) and Canobies nearest competition that was worthy was Whalom which isn't doing much competition expect getting new mentions from juviniles burning down it's history like a bunch of little shmuchs (sorry, I get carried away, that just angers me). Mike, since you have been to Canobie, how are the lines these days? Are people still coming through the gates? Nelson, I dissagree with you a little that SFNE is too much competition. Until the last decade, CP was Americana's competition and lookie now, they are surrounded by bigger parks (PKI, CP, SFWoA, SFKK) and still reopening and improving. Anywhoo, I like rollergator's suggestion, them getting some of Whalom's rides. Wouldn't the Tumble Bug look nice there? :)

Mike, glad you're the number 1 Canobie fan. I'm the number 1 (maybe 2?) Conneaut fan. We recognize the classic coolness of these smaller parks, I'm sure the residents in NE recognize this as well. :)

I think some don't realize how many cool little parks are close to them :)

That S&S will surly make an impact on Whalom should it reopen. Does Lake Compounce have an S&S?
