Can you feel the sway?

When your on an impulse coaster, can you feel the towers sway? I've never been on one and want to know if they do.

If you like Wicked Twister in the back, does that mean you like to get screwed in the rear?

No. You generally don't feel coasters swaying. Heck, you can hardly feel the sway on the first drop of Camden Park's Big Dipper and that's swaying a matter of feet!

On the other hand, you CAN feel the sway of the Eiffel Tower at Kings Island if you're standing on top and the elevator starts up......

Call me crazy, but I definitely felt it on the last overbank on Xcelerator.

Goodbye Whizzer, dear friend. You set me rolling many years ago into this fun hobby...

RIP Whizzer: 1976 - 2002

You don't usually feel swaying on something that is moving. When you are standing still you feel it much more. Many bridges and even some overpasses move quite noticably is you get stuck in a traffic jam on them. I once lived in a 12th floor apartment that swayed enough to cause clearly visible waves in my aquarium.

Every large structure has to sway - if it doesn't when an unexpected load (such as a coaster train moving at 72 mph) hits it, it will break. Any coaster will bend and deflect, one of the more impressive ones is watching Phantom's Revenge's first hill compress as the train comes down it, or Raptor's cobra roll dip in on itself as the train comes over it. The thing with impulses is they're just not connected, in all these other instances, the "sway" is controlled by the substructure, on impulses, its just free-in-the-breeze

Willard's Whizzer (1976-2002) Farewell my Friend

I know someone who used to work pretty high up in the Sear's Tower in Chicago and she said you could see the water swirling around in the toilet :~D. You usually don't feel it because you are moving on the ride, and you come up and down so fast it might get a half swing at most when you go up. Besides, it's probably scarier watching it than if you'd actually feel it on the ride.

What is it Lassie? Did Timmy fall down the well again? Rough. Did Mr. Wilson have a heart attack? Rough. Is the drug dealer here for his money? Rough Rough. RUN!

I have ridden V2 @ Six Flags Great America also Tim, and I haven't felt the swaying. But watching guests look at it and get all freaked out is funny.

Raging Rider, that's hilarious! I'll have to check that out next time I visit the Windy City. I suppose I can swap an hour of Great America for a Sears Tower swaying experiment. LOL

In 4 Days My 100th Coaster will be HyperSonic XLC

I don't recall feeling it sway but when I'm going up the tower and I see it swaying in front of me, that pretty much scares me sh**less.

Sometimes I feel like I am swaying on Sidewinder at SFEG on the platform. But maybe it is just the wind, it just feels like it.

SFoT's Shockwave sways a delicious amount. Over at SFFT, Rattler's track sways an incredible mount after the initial turnaround after the drop where it levels out into the helix. Quite an impressive sight; it has to sway at least a few feet, as its swaying is visible across the park!

On SFOG's Ninja's final brake run, I'd be surprised if you could NOT feel the track sway. The track sways so much you can hear the wheels rattling around under the trains.

My two favorite coasters are named Superman.
Nitro, Gemini, Laser, Ice, Thunder...The American Gladiators!

I rode power tower in the rain as we got near to the top a gust of wind shook the tower. That was a pretty scary experiance.

Wicked twister you can see it shake, and that get some of my party to not ride it (didn't bother me at all). I got in line but it broke down and the ride op's told us we should just go ride a different coaster and then come back. Every time i got in line for that it broke down. Never got a chance to ride it.
