Can Paul Ruben fit on TTD and MF with the 1" slack rule?

On the travel chanel he's been on there all the time. I saw him on SRoS at darien lake and his lap bar was up so high on his gut that his waiste would rise up over the t-bar on the airtime hills. It would be cool to see him trying to get on ttd and he won't fit lol. BTW is Park World really a magazine?
Yeah, Park World exists - see here:

http://www.datateam.co.uk/business_publications/park_world.htm

Don't know anyone who has ever read a copy though :)

Also not entirely sure about the "Well Respected Editors" bit...!

I noticed that also, it appeared his lapbar was on his waist, but it didn't look like he was as stapled in as he should have been. Just my 2 cents.

Also, why doesn't anyone like Paul Ruben? Can anyone fill me in here? lol.... *** Edited 3/17/2005 10:08:05 AM UTC by Geewhzz***

Because he is a media whore ;)

Any time a camera is pointed in his direction he will tell them that coaster "Y" (the one he just rode) is the best/greatest coaster he ever rode.

GORSCH did ya ever think that maybe, just maybe, that's why he has been invited to so many media events? He gets invited because what he says will be no surprise, while the average grumpy enthusiasts think that it's more important to uphold their unshaking integrity, rather than honor the park with some creative verbage.

He does like every ride he goes on. Is that a bad thing, maybe he just loves riding rides and coasters. Unlike others who like one ride and will yell and whine when someone tells them different. I'm not making fun because that's how I am to with Top Thrill Dragster. :)

Park World...Amazon.com...$165 for 12 issue subscription. It had better be good for $13.75 an issue! LOL He's been around forever...and looking worse everytime I see a picture or video of him. LOL

I'd have no problem with him if he said coaster "Y" was a great coaster and it was amazing.

What I have a problem with is the fact that he says instead that the coaster he just rode was the best coaster ever.

There's a difference between praise and outright lying - heck my wife, who is by no means an enthusiast - when she saw him in a show the other day said, "Is that guy a paid shill? He's always saying that everything he rides is the best ever!"

I noticed that when the show was on the last time, he is seriously inches off his seat on every hill.
He probably wouldn't normally be able to ride most coasters, but for PR sakes, I bet any park would let him ride.

Except my park (if I had one)

Just to clarify, its "Park World" not "Ride World". RideWorld has nothing at all to do with Paul Ruben.

As for Paul himself, he does seem like a media whore. Also from what I've heard, not all PR staffs love him. I seem to remember an incident happening not to long ago at Knotts where he almost got kicked out of the park (I don't remember the entire story anymore).

Sorry about that...I'll edit the previous =)

That's why I like you George, you can see the difference between, say, night and day...;)

When I was asked about Mummy after our media day thingy, I gave it LOTS of praise....I really think the ride is THAT good. "Best themed coaster I ever rode, really PULLS you into the movie." Then I compared it favorably to RnRC just down the street, which I considered a valid *comparable* ride. Never once did I say that it was the greatest ride ever built...

I think it's VERY possible to "honor the park with creative verbage" and STILL maintain self-respect by being honest, with the media and yourself. Maybe I won't ever get invited to do the stuff that Paul is, but then again, I'm not getting paid 13.75 to write this post, either...;)

I can assure you that there are certain PR staffers, actually lots of them, that can't stand the guy. Apparently he's made some ridiculous demands to some parks while playing the role of media whore.

'gator is right... it's possible to maintain some level of integrity and be honest while playing the role of park advocate. I've been talking to papers like the LA Times and USA Today for a few years, and if I don't have something nice to say, I just try to avoid saying anything. Even then I've harmed certain relationships (you'd be surprised if you knew who with), but not beyond repair. I've turned down offers to do POV shoots about rides I didn't care for. Nothing personal, I just don't want to harm my reputation for being an asshole. ;)

I don't know how big this guy is but I've seen some larger people be allowed on MF and TTD. With some assistance. (Interestingly, one friend was not allowed on Wicked Twister but WAS allowed on MF and TTD.)

Maybe they have 4 ride ops work together to press the restraints closed in a 15-minute group effort to get the guy fastened in. Sound crazy? I saw it on the Hulk at IOA.

I've found proof that at least one Park World magazine has been published!

I agree with all of you but one thing that really bothers me about Ruben is his Laugh. It is SOOOO annoying. It really bugs me on the S:ros video when he is riding with that Blonde girl.
I think the better question is "Is Paul Ruben allowed in the park?"
Lets see he lies about his opinions. Hopfully it's not the snow ball effect and he begins to lie about coaster facts that only enthusiast would know are false.

Like "there's Mean Streak the tallest fastest longest and best rollercoaster in the universe" Since he is on tv most people not like us would believe it is the longest and best wooden coaster.(ya right)

What bothers me the most is his fake smile.

-Eric: Major Parks: SFNE(homepark), SFA,SFGADV,CP,BGE,BGA,Kennywood, and Sea World: Track record 65 different coasters ridden #1 is Millennium Force #2 is El Toro and than there are all the others

He was just on today on Discovery. Said Goliath was the best coaster ever built. ;)

Me? I'm dishonest, and a dishonest man you can always trust to be dishonest. Honestly. It's the honest ones you want to watch out for, because you can never predict when they're going to do something incredibly... stupid.
