Well, if you're going to try and modify the objects and textures in the game, then good luck. It's next to impossible to add new items to the game, let alone modify the existing ones. If it was even moderately easy, thee would be a TON of new texture/object packs out there, dontcha think?
If you just want to make a safari, you could create savannahs and jungles with existing textures and objects, and add the cheesy animal statues as animals.
I've trief this a time or two and it actually works. Make an island in the African Safari that is surrounded by water (duh). Then put a few entertainers on it. Change them into the elephant, tiger, etc... Now you have "wild" animals running around in the themed area. Make sure you give them plenty of room to move around though. If you put trees on the island, just remember that they can't walk through them. Use trees sparingly.
