Cameras on Roller Coasters??

I agree that some loose articles rules have gotten a little much- Cedar Point especially.

Not even 5 years ago articles such as backpacks, cameras, cups, etc were allowed on rides such as Magnum, Corkscrew, and Demon Drop (yes, Demon Drop. I've taken a backpack on DD *several* times). Now they're not allowed.

What changed to make it unsafe? Was it really unsafe before? Is it just a ploy to rent more lockers?

CP went a little nuts when they built MF. They had to tell everyone where to sit. You had to get a ticket to ride. You had to rent a locker before getting in line. Some of those things went away and some of it spread like a virus.

Ding Ding, I think that may be it. DP loves those damn lockers...

In all cases, it is best to get permission from said authorities before doing any sort of filming (be it still shots, digital or video). Pictures that we took of PowderKeg while it was being built were all done "legally" by getting permission and so on. While we have taken pictures on other coasters in the past without permission, do realize that this was during our "wilder, didn't know any better" days. If it says no cameras on the ride, then play by the rules and don't do it. If there is no signs, then double check with an operator to see if it is OK. It is always best to cover your butt than to get in trouble.

Careful with lockers...

The parks typically post notices in them limiting their liability to something like $20.

Do you REALLY want to put $1500 worth of camera equipment in there?

This comes from someone whose 50mm lens was destroyed by the conditions inside an amusement park locker. I'm lucky the camera it was attached to was still OK.

The only thing i put in lockers is extra videotapes or a small bag from a merch shop. Anything else, I get a handstamp and it gets the trunk treatment.
Isn't taking pictures from any ride in a CF park against their rules now?

I couldn't believe my ears last summer...a rideop ran me down in the middle of one particularly hazardous ride to ask that I put my camera away. And the ride in question? How 'bout The Antique Cars?

Playa, you're supposed to be paying attention to your DRIVING....;)

LMAO, what if you had been on a cell phone instead? :)

Seriously, isn't there some sort of "reasonableness" going on here? Nah, doesn't look like it...;)

'Playa: You can thank the idiot claiming to have sustained a neck injury after getting bumped from behind by some kid. The Cedar Fair lawyers have taken the route of even protecting you from common sense because they're that worried about getting sued. It's ridiculous, but I'm not sure if you should blame their lawyers or blame society.

I wasn't driving--the birdie had the wheel.

We're lucky the rideop didn't spot the open bottle!

I can just see it now...next year there will be a "no birdies holding the wheel" rule on the cars. Just think of all the liability issues.
