It's understandable that parks don't want you to take on ride photos. It is also understandable that you are not allowed to use a tripod as it tends to block traffic and creates a tripping hazard. You also legitmately will not generally be allowed to take pictures of non- public areas unless you get permission first. And, you can expect to not be allowed to take pictures of any type of incident such as an accident.

However, I certainly cannot understand why SFWoA would be so asinine as to try to prevent you from taking normal tourist type pictures. This certainly is not the case in other SF parks. I've even been escorted on a tour at SFGAdv where they allowd us to take pictures in many normally non-public areas of Nitro such as the control room, train shed, and out on the run.

A few years ago (Steel Phantom's last year) at Kennywood I walked up to the loading station of SP and took a few pics. I was trying to get the lift hill and part of the second big drop down the ravine. There was a park employee/ride op at the entrance to the station (where I didn't even try to go into) said I couldn't do it. I was annoyed and took another picture and left. I explained to her I wasn't going on the ride with it and wasn't planning to ride right then and she didn't care. I thought it was strange. I've never had that problem before nor since.

When I worked at the Adventuredome, our policy was no pictures while on the rides. For saftey's sake (flying cameras arent very nice...). Other than that pictures are welcome.

The funny thing is that SFWoA sells disposable cameras on park grounds.
Nate: That's very interesting. I wonder if SFWoA employees would object to picture taking if people were using disposables purchased from the park? Might make for a good experiment sometime.....
