Camden Park, WV. Is it worth the visit?

Like everyone else says I wouldn't make the trip to just go there but it would be a good stop on the way to or from SFKK, PKI, or Holiday World.

The log flume is great! We got to tour the weeds, and the one hill didn't have water going down so our boat made a nasty screech down the hill.

When we were there you had to pay either a dime or nickel to use the crapper! Or you could be brave and save the money and use the one without a door!

While there I did pick up a cool Camden Park print with paintings of the Big Dipper, Haunted House, Tbolt Express, Whip, Train, Steam Boat, and the sign of the clown in the parking lot.

i've only been 2 camden one time, very young then , don't remember much. it was a nice park, though, very traditional. i'm from (and still live in) WV, and have 2 say, this is a beautiful state, but i wouldn't suggest coming just for the park, since u are a ways away definitly add some other "theme parks" to the trip, since Camden is not huge, and there aren't any other major things for ride enthusiasts to do in the state(i've live here all of my 22 years on earth), but if u like beautiful scenery, walking mountain paths, and visiting state parks, i'd recommend coming for a few days, seeing what WV has to offer, and then taking in Camden for a while on one of ur days. but i'd defintly visit Huntington and Charleston while ur here if u want more to do (i.e. nightlife), but really i'd say visit, just plan your visit wisely and don't only come for the park

That is very correct! And don't forget to go whitewater rafting while you are at it! WOOHOO! The state also has some very nice ski resorts. Tekno is right....the state parks are not to be missed if you are visiting this way. I grew up camping and hiking all of them. Since you are coming from Raleigh the New River area is minutes off I-77 and is well worth it. I have only been rafting once a while back but it was a blast!

Whitewater rafting is DEFINITELY a good way to get side-tracked on those marathon coaster trips...:). Then again, I just love driving UNDER the mountains in WV...kinda spooky...

One trip angle would be to hit Camden, Kennywood, Conneaut Lake and Waldameer right up the interstate and wind up with a day or two on the beaches at Erie, right below Waldameer. There aren't very many, if any, interstates which can boast four classic parks in a row with a major beach resort at the end. (Presque Isle at Erie has 12 miles of the finest freshwater beaches in North America.)

Or, as others have mentioned, you could combine Camden with an east-west run of Kentucky Kingdom, Holiday World and Six Flags St. Louis, or take 64 back the other way to Busch Gardens.

I think Camden Park is worth a visit. We have to keep these classic parks alive, and pass on the experience. Like Notre Dame in football and Kentucky in basketball, they kept the tradition alive until the day came when it caught fire. If it were not for Camden, Kennywood, Hershey, etc., we would never have had Kings Island, Cedar Point or the other megaparks.

I'll NEVER drive through West Virginia again, the drive through the heart of NC has become a least favorite thing to do or think about, takes our time & replaces it with pain.......

Beltline.

Going to Camden and Kennywood from SRM is precisely what I had in mind although I may have to make another stop on Monday since Camdem is closed.

Beltline? HA, are you crazy? You cannot avoid the "Beltline" if you're traveling across the state on I-40, LOL, & besides, what good does that do when the last three times it's been a traffic jam the whole way, one time traffic stopped at US1 & was still backed up hours later when we got off at US52/40BUS, that's a Raleigh to past Winston-Salem traffic jam! Insane stuff on the road in the middle of state.

Anyways, seeing the mention of New River, I'd drive from Raleigh to there anyday, LOL! I grew up in mountains & seclusion, that place is the only other mountains that live up to the term "mountain" as far as us mountain people were concerned. Rock climbing, real camping, logging roads, sheer drop offs, it's a wonderful place. Some of those are mountains you'll fall off of, too;), you must "keep control of small children & animals" or they'll become part of the scenery below......
