Calling Northeast Ohio, need some directions to GL...

If anyone would just so happen to be in Ashtabula, or Lake County, and would have the *fastest* directions to Geauga Lake, could you please fill me in! I just recently moved here from the West Cleveland Area, and I'm kinda lost. I don't see the point of going all the way to Cleveland, to I-271 as mapquest is telling me to do, when there has got to be some state routes to get me there. Any help will be great!

Michael

Ahh . . .

Ashtabula, great place to be from.

I grew up in Ashtabula and moved to Aurora. I actually lived in Remindersville (right across 43 from GL) and we always took the I271-I90 route between Ashatbula and Aurora. It was the fastest.

But why am I answering, I haven't lived there since 1978.

Guess you haven't seen Ashtabula lately, needs a lot of work ;).

I'm trying to avoid going to I271 as much as possible. But thanks for the reply! :)

Begin stereotypical CoasterBuzz member response:

You friekin' idot! How could you be so dumb! Don't you have a phone? Call the park, moron! Plus, now we have this thing called the i-n-t-e-r-n-e-t. You can actually connect directly to the park's 'web page,' where they give directions from various locations. But, then again, you wouldn't know that, since you have yet to jump into the 21st century! Good grief, hasn't this been brought up a hundred times before? A simple search through the archives may have settled this! Oh man, how will I sleep tonight; I'm so upset and offended. What a jerk you are! You could always ask a friend; oh, wait, you have no friends! HAHAHAHA! I am so much cooler than you!!!

-end mocking-

Seriously though, the 271 to 422 route may be the fastest way to go. I know it's not direct, but it will probably work best. State Routes may be shorter, but freeways don't have poorly timed traffic lights. I never lived in Astabula (lived in Aurora, and now Los Angeles), but as far as I know, it's your best bet.

You could take 44 to 422 if you're looking for a different route. It's more straight forward, but you'll move a bit slower and hit a couple lights... *** Edited 4/30/2004 11:42:56 PM UTC by SFWoARules!***

Danimales - I can see you're still sore for what happened after your comments in the Travel tips thread. I doubt anyone would have given Michael a hard time, he DID his homework first. And as I and others said many times in that thread, when you've done the legwork but still can't seem to find an answer the best place to turn it to your fellow Cbuzzers.

Yes, but if I may be so bold, can I point out that the three human responses backed mapquest's recommendation?

The travel tips only work if you're willing to accept the info you find ;)

I'm not sure about all the way to Ashtabula, but from Geneva-on-the-Lake, I do not reccommend 44. I tried to go from the park to Geneva on 44 last summer to visit my girlfriend and it took me the better part of an hour and a half. I would say take 11 to either 422 or 44, whichever crosses it first. I'm not positive how the roads run, but that's what I would do.

Thank you all for your replies, I think I'm just going to take I-271, as much as I don't want to, looks like the best option. I just hate midtown traffic.

I don't see any reason to skip 271. I travel that road every damn day (80 in the express lanes :)). Every north-south road in and around the park is going to suck, and I don't suggest taking any of them. I hate to say it, but 422 to 91 (or the next exit to come from around the other way, I forget the exit) work just fine.

An Ohioan doing 80mph down the expressway?

I have officially fainted. :)

My favorite MJ tune: "Billie Jean" which I have been listening to alot now. RIP MJ.

I had to put my head between my knees too, Chitown. And I'm one of those evil blue-plates from Michigan.

To being an "us" for once - instead of a "them".

From Ashtabula i would go for 44. But in the end it probibly doesn't matter much, unless you plan to travel during a weekday rush hour period. The real trick to getting to the park from 422 is taking the US route 306 exit one exit east of the Solon US route 91 exit. Route 306 south to Pettibone or Treat will get you pretty close without having to mess with Solon. But then again you may already know that part.
I was an Ohioian for 30 of my 40 years, and we all drove 10+ mph over the speed limit. Is 80 too slow?

Now I live in the "land of old" and I don't mean fairy tale "old" where 80 is the average age. and many people go 10+ mph under the speed limit.

Help! :-0

CoasterDad-
Help? Move to the west coast. 80mph IS too slow here. I love it!
Kentucky Drivers = slow

Illinois Drivers = Faster the further north you go.

North Dakota = Terrible State.

Just thought I would throw my 2 cents in there.

Down is the new up.
Dumb question of the day...

Pronunciation of Ashtabula?

Ash-tab-u-la?

Ash-ta-bul-a?

"Yes... well... VICTORY IS MINE!"
Ash-ta-bu-la

Pronounced: Ash-tuh-byou-luh
