California Screemin

Just wanted to let all the coaster fans know that I've ridden the new California Screemin coaster at DCA, and it is awesome!! Well worth a trip to California Adventure!
PS - It's the smoothest ride I've been on.... the rest of the park is pretty laim though.

California Screamin' looks like it would be a fun ride, but nothing to get too excited about. At least, nothing I'm going to get excited about over here on the east coast!

Thats what Talon, Nitro, Phantoms Revenge, and Hypersonic are for! 8^P

I agree with snappaneck, Cali. Screamin is one awsome ride! Definetly in my top five. It pushed back Riddler's Revenge out of my top five list. One hell of an intense ride! It was a very different ride experience for me. I have very high standards for coasters. I came into the park with a pretty good idea of what this ride would be like. My whole opinion changed. Definetly worth the 45 bucks I spent.

Only four more months 'til X!!!
I agree also, it's a very fun ride, and that's what it was built for. They more than succeeded. Besides, it's an Intamin, when's the last time they made a bad coaster? One word of warning though, like most modern Intamin coasters, it breaks down quite a bit. Don't go to the park expecting just to hop on it.

Thank you Disney, thank you... *** This post was edited by Middleman on 2/13/2001. ***
Other than the Launch, which is pretty tame as far as launched coasters go, I found Screamin to be pretty mild. I would definitely call this a family coaster. Even the loop felt like it was lacking in G's. The sound system built into the train pumping corny carnival music is a nice touch. In-train sound systems seem to be standard on all major new Disney coasters. Screamin does look great, especially at night. I could do without the scream shields, but I understand why they are there. On a side note, I wouldn't be surprised if it was some Buena Park residents that saw Screamin (which has been finished for nearly a year and is clearly visible from outside the park) and were inspired to call Knott's and tell them to do the same thing to Ghostrider.

The coaster formerly known as Avalanche Run comes to mind...

Yep, that's a bad one alright ;) How far back did you have to go for that one Jeff?

I thought California Screamin was a fun ride. It was not built to be the tallest, fastest or most intense just a fun ride. THe soundtrack was awesome (I love rides with soundtracks) and the launch and loop were pretty good as well. Like every other coaster at Disneyland, particularly Big Thunder Mountain Railroad or Space Mountain it didn't have to be scary at all to be a great coaster!!

Granted, I've only ridden it as DT (with and without all the themeing working), but I wouldn't call it 'bad'. Lame? Maybe. But not bad. I rode its sister (Rolling Thunder @ SFGAm) outdoors. Again, lame, but not bad. I think the Whizzer is lame, but again not 'bad'. What did you think was wrong with AR?

One another recent bad Intamin coaster: Indiana Jones and the Temple of Peril... Backward! at DLP. Problem is Intamin bought a cookie cutter model from Pinfari and putted their ride system and trains on it. Here is the list of problems that that coaster got:

1- Breakdowns: "We are lucky, we only got 2 breakdown today".

2- Harnesses: Iron is softer than the Intamin sitdown coaster harnesses...

3- Lack of padding: Not bad, but were you forced to put 2 thin stripes of black foam ( for the back ) as the only padding in the train?

4- Too much confidence: We can run 6 trains on a circuit 1400 feet long! Oh, we did not think that the cast members and the poor guests whould have exactly 12 seconds to get the guests out, get the guests in and check the harnesses...

5- Brakes that are too performing: Stops on a dime, but once, the brakes stopped the train so abruptly that the wheels and axels continued their way to the station, while the guests remained on the brakes ( LOL ).
