Kick the Sky,I'm with you on that country music thing.I was even raised in the country on a dairy farm. When I was milking or feeding the cows, the barn radio was usually playing the likes of Aerosmith,Beatles,Rolling Stones,Pink Floyd,Led Zeppelin, ect.Would your screen name be inspired by a certain Jimi Hendrix song?

Sorry for getting off topic folks.

I can fix anything.....where is the duct tape?

I'm an ACE member and there is no better way to ride coasters than at an event. Who likes to spend all day standing in line? Every event i've been to you can ride untll you get tired than it's off to the next coaster.I also disagree with Apolloandy you can go to SFNE,LC,SFGADV,Coney Island,Canobie just about every park has an event. Not all events do you have to be a member to go. And Coasterr you can go with your friends I do. Ajrides.
is it possible to bring non-members to events like that? and, if so, how much would it cost them to get in?

Yes. We bring my sister and brother-in-law with us alot. The cost depends on the event, which is quite reasonable considering the ERT, food and such.

So many coasters, so little vacation time....

bumping this back to the top....wondering why on COASTERbuzz that over 50% don't atttend any events. I know for me personally they ALWAYS involve some pretty serious travel. Lucky I have a state job...where the motto is "Pay you...but we give lots of leave time AND you get to live in FL". I guess they're right...;)...I'm still here...

I don't find it that surprising. I mean, ACE has, what 6,000 members? Every ACE event I've been to has had perhaps 100 to 200 members (though I certainly realize that these are smaller events we're talking about).

Exactly. ACE has a LOT of what the higher-ups refer to as "read only members" -- they join for the publications and perhaps the perks at parks if they live near one that gives them. There are many ACE members who've never attended a single event.

I find it amusing, but somewhat understandable (although if I were to join a club just for the publications, ACE wouldn't be my first choice, ECC would ;) )

With working at Valleyfair; There's just too much travelling involved to the bulk of events. I know The Beast works at VF and does the enthusiast thing, but seeing how I work at VF to pay for college, and not for trips to events I don't go.

Besides why would I want to stand by a bunch of people wearing those God awful yellow t shirts anyway? ;)

I guess I am just under the impression, perhaps mistakenly...;) that most others live in areas where at least one or two events are within a "reasonable" drive. I realize that the definition of reasonable varies, sometimes greatly, but if I could attend an event with less than a 3-hour drive, with coaster-folk, food, AND the always-impressive ERT :)...it would take something serious to keep me away...

Any resemblance between this post and humor is purely coincidental. No robots were harmed in the filming of this episode...The sarcasm filter default has been left ON for your enjoyment.

Another factor is probably the fact that many buzzers are too young to drive. It's mighty hard to get Mom or Dad to take you to a distant rollercoaster event, unless you have a parent who is a rollercoaster freak like me.

I have found that being part of a coaster club is well worth the money.

The publications, as have been said before, are practially worth the membership dues alone! Don't know why, but there is something about seeing printed word and pictures about coasters, even if I have seen the same thing several times before on the internet.

Then there are the media days. Riding X before it opened to the public had to be the best thing I have done while part of ACE. We all know how long the lines are for that ride, so it is pretty cool to have gone on it with very minimal waits.

And I for one can't wait for Xcelerator's media day!!

Getting into events like Winter Solace is certainly a perk. While I have been on every ride at Knotts countless times, its still cool to get together and ride with friends, and even those you don't know.

When you have such a common interest, like being coaster enthusiasts, its not hard to get to know one another.

As far as ACE goes, I really appreciate their work to preserve the history of amusment parks and classic coasters. I guess you could say that if that is how they are using my membership dues, that is money well spent!

So, all I can say is that any coaster club membership is quite worthwhile!

Well, this is true for most of us but personally I don't make events near my home as much of a priority...why? Because I've already been to those parks several times, and therefore I don't need ERT since I've already taken countless circuits on my favourites.

I'm actually much more likely to plan trips based around ERT's at new parks so I can do more the first time I go there. This is why I attended the RRC 10th Anniversary Celebration at Knoebel's last year, and why I'm going on the second leg of the ACE European Coaster Odyssey this season while passing local events like Timbers Fest and Coastermania up. (Though SRM is still a must :-)

I do have to say that if you haven't been to at least one before you really should try it out before you assume that it's not worth the effort. The other enthusiasts can make the day a lot of fun, and most parks offer an unbelievable amount of hospitality and enthusiasm at their events...some like SRM have even become legendary for it, and with good reason!

I have a state job, too. Too bad it's NYS!! We've been in the middle of an emergency staff shortage for the last two years where I work. The "bennies" are great, lot's of leave time, but with the current crisis, I can't always just pick up and go as I would like to anymore. But like they keep telling us, "This year will be better", wink-wink =).

If it were not for that, I'd probobly never be at work. You know how it is!!

Enjoy yourself. These are the good old days you're going to miss in the years ahead.
