Busch Tampa seeks approval of coaster and new restaurant

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Busch Gardens Tampa is seeking approval to build a major new roller coaster attraction as well as a new 400-seat restaurant and open both by May 2005. Plans filed show riders will race through an old stone tower and make a precipitous drop, ending in a pool of water.

I'm not sure if this has been posted on Cbuzz before, but BGT Guide has a bunch of info on BGT's new coaster. There are also drawings of what the new coaster may look like. To me it seems to be B&M track and the Dive Machine trains. There is even the supposed water splashdown illustrated.

Busch is perhaps the most cautious company out there, and they're completely in bed with B&M. That's who will be building this, guaranteed.

Uhhh lets just say my friend who lives in tampa will be getting a visit by me.

The first thing that came to mind, in my opinion, was exactly what Flashback0978 mentioned. I pictured the drop of Oblivion with the same "drop into the water" as Anaconda in PKD. Also, remember when Islands of Adventures advertised dropping below water level for Dudley Ripsaw Falls. I'm sure if it is like Oblivion, it drops into a tunnel surrounded by water like those two. But, we'll see. All guesses now. I know I will be heading West more often to "spy" on the construction!
If it does splash into the water it will be interesting to see how the trains are configured to do so, Im thinking more along the lines of water jets that cause the illusion of a splash unless I hear otherwise
Flashback: Indeed, particularly since the trains for the vertical drop coaster are REALLY expensive as it is! I'd also imainge they'd want to keep them as free from any environments that could contribute to reliability problems as possible. I'd also speculate a dive under wanter or into a dry trench-surrounded by water- complete with jets to create the illusion of a splasdown.
I think the only shady thing about this is that there are actually THREE vertical dive coasters in the World. The third is in South Africa and was not built by B&M. So, by BGT stating that there are ONLY 2 such coasters in the World, only two possible things could be implied: 1.) That it is actually not a dive machine or 2.) It MUST be B&M designed.
Indeed, although Tower of Terror or Shaft of Doom (whatever they call it) tends to be less well know than Oblivion or G5.

I think the key is in the terminology: there are more than 3 vertical drop coasters, but only two "dive machines" *wink, wink, nudge, nudge*. In other words: it's a B&M! :-)

BTW. Does TOT really subject riders to 6.5G (as stated on RCDB?) That pull out of the drop must be quite sharp to achieve that. Has anyone ridden it?

Best, B

Until last year ToT also had lapbars.... talk about crazy. Hanging on that lapbar that high up. Now it has OTSR's that are said to be rather uncomforatable.
