Busch Gardens Williamsburg "reimagining" Loch Ness Monster

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Featuring an enhanced queue experience and all-new soundtrack, storytelling, innovative effects, and thrills, the new Loch Ness Monster: The Legend Lives On will take riders through the Scottish terrain on “Nessie’s” signature steel track, plus over 900 feet of all-new track.

"900 feet of all new track" Does this mean the coaster is getting 900 additional feet of track, or is roughly 1/3 of the coaster getting new track (it's 3200 or so feet logn according to rcdb.)

It does sound like new trains, as I don't think you could easily put sound in the Arrow cars.

I don't think there are any layout changes planned. I think it's just replacement track in certain areas of the existing ride.

I want to say the ride received new trains not terribly long ago. Seeing as how it's not the entire layout being retracked, I'm not sure if new trains are needed if the current trains are still new(ish).

2018, according to RCDB. I'd be surprised if they toss them to get onboard sound. S&S actually did a really nice job with them.

On a trivial note, could Attractions Magazine have found a worse video to embed? It's basically two minutes of someone's knees.

Having rode it last Thur night, I hope its all the infamous Arrow transitions, the left turn after the first loop being the hardest, then the right to get back across the river into the helix/mountain.

How long has the helix/mountain been entirely black?

Also its crazy to me how Dominion, know has better food variety then BGW.

Also the ride had one of the most beautiful coaster posters created for its launch, and I hope they use it again, instead of the silly rendered look.

I do have to say, that for it's age, Loch Ness is still one of the more rideable of the arrow loopers. I didn't get on Corkscrew this year during my CP visit, but there are not too many other Arrow Loopers that I can say are re-rideable to much of an extent. (Though I must say, I was somewhat pleasantly surprised by Anaconda last summer at Kings Dominion. I hadn't been on it in 20 years now, so I really expected the worst. I can't say it was great, but it hadn't aged as much as I thought it might have.)

Now for the big question - how long till such a project is required on Gemini?

I rode both last week, and actually, Anaconda was better for me, the transitions were much smoother, and for my height, the restraints were in a better position.

Loch Ness is pretty good, but that first left after the first loop you have to hold your head hard right. It also had a bit more shimmy then last time rode it roughly around 2014 or so.
