Busch Gardens Williamsburg Help...

I went to BGW last summer and it was HOT! My family(three siblings) bought a two day pass but ended up going to the water park for the second day. In the short time actually spent at the park, I rode every coaster plus some flat rides. It was totally packed so there was no way I could see everything, but I was happy with what I saw in only one day. The coasters range from the super-intense Apollo's Chariot to the slow and mild Wild Maus. The ideal family coaster is definatly the Big Bad Wolf. It was thrilling enough for me too ride but tame enough for my 5 yr. old sister to like it too. If you're going to try to do it all in 1 day, you're going to need to look at a map beforehand, ride the chairlift as much as possible, and wear a comfortable pair of shoes. I had blisters on my blisters at the end of the day.

Escape from Pompeii makes the heat a non-issue. I love that ride!

And honestly, you don't even have to ride it to escape the heat (although it is a great ride). That's the beauty of shoot-the-chute rides--they usually have an 'observation deck' on which you can get drenched. It was one of the only things that made the oppressive Texas heat bearable at SFoT this past August.

Jeff, I am glad to hear someone else rave about Pompeii. Out of all the water rides I have ever ridden, it is my favorite. I could sit on that thing all day. The fire is simply amazing!

Escape From Pompeii ranks as my second favorite water ride, right behind Disney's Splash mountain. The whole ride is exceptionally well done and if you sit in a middle row, you really don't get that wet. The flames that Shaggy mentioned scared the pants off of me on my first trip through!

As mentioned earlier, the "staircase" is a pretty tiring way to cross the park. You can take the long way around, or you can descend a flight of steps near the Loch Ness Monster entrance, cross a nice boardwalk, then climb an even steeper flight of steps and a hill to get to the Germany area. My family likes to call this the "Deathwalk" as you are certainly worn out after using it!

You'll absolutely love BGW. The theming is on par with Disney in some areas, the coasters are outstanding, the shows are the best I've seen in an amusement park, and the landscaping and setting is just beautiful.

I also enjoyed Pompeii but what was suprising we my 5 yr old daughter who dosnet really like water rides just love this one!!! We went on it dozens of times and even had to buy her a t-shirt of the ride which she still wears often!!!

I also think the park is great and my favorite non-disney/Universal park!!! if only Six Flags were so nice and clean and family friendly!!!

BGW is basically a big circle. After the skyride and the train tracks, you can either go left or right. If you choose the left path towards Apollo's Chariot, you'll be going downhill most of the time instead of uphill.

The next time the Travel Channel does a 'behind the scenes' at a park, they can show the building that houses the special effects. It actually has a finished 'basement', that is used as a walk thru in the Halloween season. Quite a suprise. Lights, doors, floors, walls, the whole works.

I agree, Tolian. I'd always eaten at either the Festhaus or in San Marco, but this past season I had one of the best pork barbecues I've ever tasted in New France...

BGW is fabulous. My friend and I spent a whole week only at BGW last year and did not get bored once. It is truly a stunning park.

As for Colonial Williamsburg, we spent a few hours there and were quite disappointed. They charge you theme park prices just to get in and there were a few things we would have liked to have seen but cost extra. Definitely was not what I expected (or what they advertise).

As for night shows, according to the website, Imaginique is returning again this year and is highly recommended. It's located in Acquitaine at the Royal Palace Theater. It's a scaled down version of Neil Goldberg's Cirque (like Cirque du Soleil). It usually starts around 7:30 or 8:00 with performers entertaining guests throughout Acquitaine. The actual show starts around 9:00. It runs a little over thirty minutes and gives you enough time to hop on over to Alpengeist afterwards for one hell of a night ride.
