Busch Gardens Williamsburg

Travis, I have no idea why. And I'm not completely petrified of them, but I'd rather NOT do them. I'm claustrophobic (so tube slides are out), and I'm not a great swimmer, so those reasons are probably some of it. Plus, no one wants to see me in a bathing suit.

For a while, I used to really love the speed slides at Wildwater Kingdom. It took me forever to get up the nerve to ride them, and then when I rode them, I bored my parents while I just rode them over and over (and over) again. Now I haven't set foot in Wildwater Kingdom in about 11 years. Of course, some of that is DEFINITELY because around that time, Wildwater Kingdom was a mess. There were things floating in the wave pool that shouldn't be talked about ever.

I once waited in line for two hours to ride the yellow enclosed slide at Dorney. It was the scariest slide I have ever been on, so it was worth it! :D

The longest I would wait for a water slide is 15 minutes unless it was a water coaster like at Holiday World.

Based on my sole water coaster experience (Deluge at KK) I doubt I'd even wait that long. But to be fair, from all accounts, HW did a much better job with theirs...both Wildebeest and Mammoth.

Haven't tried Mammoth, Wildebeest was a blast, and my favorite thing about Deluge was the way the Kentuckians said "Hay, y'all... Wanna rahd the Day-looge?"

There is no water coaster at WCUSA. The best rides there are Aquazoid (Dark Family Raft Ride,) Malibu Pipeline (Dark Speed Double Tube slide,) Vanish Point (Speed Slide that starts with a drop floor,) Wild Thang (Double Tube Slide,) and the Hubba Hubba Highway (Lazy river where there are no tubes, just life vests.)

A lazy river without tubes??!! Sacrilege! Blasphemy!

Love the thread. I'm headed to Williamsburg for a conference in July, taking the family along, and we plan on sneaking over to the park for aday. My wife and I went there when we were married (2004), but we have not been there since.

So, here's an easy one; are there any local one-day ticket deals in or around town? Or perhaps a two-day deal that's even better?

Ah...I've missed this park so much. I feel like a kid counting down the days until Christmas. :)

To me, a lazy river without tubes isn't a very lazy river. It's an oh-shoot-I've-seriously-got-to-tread-water-for-a-half-mile? river.

^^ Same for me. If there is consistent physical effort, the lazy river becomes the lame river.

I kind of like the idea. It's a walk along, float along river. And they've eliminated the need to wait for tubes.

A river needs tubes and a 5 mph current for me to consider it a lazy river.

Again disturbingly specific. :)

What does it become if the river goes 7 mph?

Yeah, Tyler has a habit of that, doesn't he?

7 mph is still probably a lazy river.

Thanks for the clarification, Tyler! Hee hee...

To be honest, I was making up THESE statistics about the speeds of lazy rivers.

Really? Never woulda thunk it.

I've searched the internet for the actual speed of a lazy river, and I couldn't find a real answer, but from what I have been reading, 5mph is a very good guess.

You dont have to tred water in the Highway, you wear a life vest, or if you are like me, sit on a life vest. Its vastly superior to a tube because:

-More of you is in the water, staying cool

-You dont have to prop your neck up the whole time like you normally do in a tube

-It can accommodate more people

However, it is not perfect, the perfect lazy river is at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. No tubes are allowed, the current is much faster then a normal river and they sandblasted the bottom of their river. All you need to do is place your feet at the bottom, lean back, and breathe normal (ie dont fully exhale) and you will "skate" along with your head just barely out of the water. Im pretty sure I was able to even fall asleep on that river.
