Busch Gardens Williamsburg & King's Dominion

kings dominion in my mind is just a mediocre park. the only ride that really stands out in my mind is volcano, which is an amazing ride and one of my all time favorite. hypersonic is overrated... a great great launch but nothing else and its quite rough. the only other ride that sticks out besides volcano is drop zone, which i loved. i also was not impressed with the wooden selection although i found grizzly to be a good ride.

busch gardens on the other hand is so much more memorable. every coaster is great. apollos chariot beats nitro in my book, alpengeist is the best inverter ive ever been on and BBW and nessie are two classic coasters that are still running very well. i love nessie... theres just something about that ride. same goes for BBW. the atmosphere is also the best youll find outside of orlando. getting lost in the experience of the park is half the fun.

i would go to BGW over PKD in a second. dont get me wrong, PKD is a really nice park but when you stack it up against BGW, it cant compare *** Edited 5/2/2004 8:47:40 PM UTC by WheelBarrow***

Ok, first of all, both of these guys are my home parks, I live an hour from BGW and 30 minutes from PKD. If you had to choose which one, it depends on what previous rides you have ridden. If you want to ride on a Thrust Air, Launched Full-Circuit Suspended, and others that are rare, go to PKD. If you want the standard (but REALLY GOOD!) B&M coasters of BGW, go there. In terms of food and atmosphere, BGW hands down wins, but PKD has gotten better.

My personal opinion is that PKD is better just because of the amount of coasters in the place and diversity of them. How can you go wrong with 4 woodies (Rebell Yell backwards and forwards)? But I still like BGW.

Mmm, Virginia in July, so very muggy. Many of the posts above made great points so I'll try to add different ones. PKD has a free on-site waterpark, if you're into that. The lines at PKD seem to clear out more quickly near the end of the day than do those at BGW. BGW is relatively hilly so if you're planning to saunter around all day you might get a workout.

I'd say go to both parks if possible, one day for each. They're only about an hour apart. If you have to pick only one I think Jim Fisher's and ThemeDesigner's criteria are good. You'll do well at either park.
