Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.

Two copper stories.

1) I belong to a club that has a hall out in a rural location that's open seasonally. A few years ago, it was discovered that someone broke into the crawlspace during the off-season and stole all the copper supply lines that served the restrooms and kitchen.

2) Couple of rubes decided they were going to steal copper cable from a mining operation in our area. Their mistake was to select a cable that was live. I think one of the families actually tried to file a suit against the company, on the grounds that the cable wasn't labeled, or they didn't make the place safer for people who wanted to rob them, or some dumb thing. It was promptly thrown out.

The theft of copper from empty houses has been big for a while now. Several people I know who have been looking at homes have yet to find one (that isn't still occupied) that hasn't been hit by copper thieves.

They also like to steal furnaces, and ceiling fans - I looked at a couple short sales one weekend - then upon inspection found they had been ravaged just one week later. Sign of the times I guess.

Man that sucks. Its almost as bad as people in Jamaica stealing street signs and melting them down to make pots and pans.

I live in the South (105 degree's today)
People have been stealing running central air conditioners.
(stole 3 units from the same lawyers office, original and 2 replacements )
A friend of mine works at the scrap recycle place in my town
They require a drivers license (and make a copy of it)
all new scrap is put off to the side and the cops come buy
2 or 3 times a week any stolen stuff is taken by the cops
and information turned over . (what happened here)
