Burger King to open first Whopper Bar at Orlando CityWalk

Posted | Contributed by Walk

Beginning Tuesday, Burger King will open its first Whopper Bar in Universal Orlando's CityWalk. There won't be any alcohol but there will be meat and lots of it. Customers can customize their Whopper, while workers will add the toppings in front of customers for a sushi bar-like atmosphere.

When I was there last year, I got a burger at the San Fran themed counter service place. Pretty sure that it was at least 2 bucks more, and the burger was average for fast food fare at best.

The other places at CityWalk are great if you have time. When the park closes at 6, I'll eat there afterward. If I want a quick bite, though, I may hit the Whopper bar if it's convenient.

^Richter's. But since you mention it....what is BK's appearance at CityWalk going to do to Burger Digs, Richter's, etc. business inside the parks? I'm going to guess that one or more of the following will apply. The BK pricing is set too low and will go up (my guess at present), the burger places inside the parks will drop their prices (actually, given the economy, this might be more viable than normal), or option C - the distance to CityWalk from those two is MORE than far enough to justify, and more importantly maintain, the difference. I trust that Our Lord will have something to say on this...

You still have Zoidberg.... You ALL have Zoidberg! (V) (;,,;) (V)

Richters's is a very good place, but the staff acts like 'Jerry's Kids' after a big rush. I would not pass this place up to run all the way across the park and out the exit for a whopper. Richter's is on the lines of Decades inside Hersheypark. FATburger it is not. Not even close.

However, if I was in Citywalk, and it was late, I would grab a whopper in lieu of a late night full service meal.

I give BK credit, for paying some steep rent,, hoping to sell more of a marginal product.

Exactly. (That's why I added the "if it's convenient" part.)

I wouldn't exit the park to save the 2 bucks, but if it's close... maybe if I'm leaving one park for the other anyhow... I'd rather do the Whopper than Richter's.

This is my guess.

I think it depends on the attendance mix, but I'm going to guess that UO is heavier on the tourist trade than the average park. For tourists, time is money---literally---and they want to make the most of it. Joe and Jane Sixpack from Middle America, Tennessee are probably not going to burn an extra 45 minutes to save $10 for lunch for the kids. The average enthusiast, who knows s/he'll be back many many times? More likely.

That's in really poor taste.

I would say C because there already is a Starbucks in the park and one in CityWalk and both seem to do fine. There also is a Cinnabon in the park (which is more money) and one in CityWalk and they both always have a line when I walk by (especially when the park is closing). So I think the distance or just the fact one is in a park and one isn't doesn't play too big of a role.

It's obviously going to be profitable, which is fine. I am not a Burger King fan to begin with, so it doesn't matter to me. ;)

Personally I like seeking out "local" places when I am out of town anyway. Part of travelling is to seek out the local eats. ;) You can find the typical nationwide fast foods anywhere. On the other hand, if it's a "pimped out" version of any fast food, then I will probably check it out, whether I order anything or not ;)
